I have discovered true happiness.
I don't know how familiar you guys are with "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," the (relatively) new animated series on Cartoon Network that hearkens back to the cheesy, campy, cameotastic vibe of the old Adam West show rather than the darker, more serious interpretation that's been popular since the original Batman movie, and Batman: The Animated Series. Long story short: It's been way better than I ever thought it could be. I can't believe how much I dig this shamelessly ridiculous show. And just yesterday, Pervy and his sister shared with me their best episode ever.
Surely inspired by
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, they brought in Neil Patrick Harris to play the title villain in a musical episode, "Mayhem of the Music Meister." It is a glorious melding of the domain of music nerds and comic book nerds, and right now they've got the full episode up on
the official site. It's also up on YouTube, until it gets shut down, or you could torrent it pretty easily. Honestly, I'd recommend that, because you're going to want this shit in high quality. I don't know if any of my friends can be even remotely as ecstatic as I was about this, but if you have any trace of music-nerd in your genome, you owe it to yourself to watch this.
There is one point not far into the episode after which any doubts I might have had about the involvement of music nerds was entirely obliterated. At one point, the Music Meister is riding some crazy two-wheeled motorized conveyance in the form of a tied eight-note pair (♫). Batman pulls the two halves apart, and what ensues is a chase with Batman and the Music Meister riding eight-note shaped segways across power lines with five wires, mimicking a musical staff. Only a true music nerd could possibly be dorky enough to write a sequence like that.
