hmmm... so... i should post something about my crazy time in chicago. initially i was going to go alone but the idea kinda started to freak me out so i convinced amy to go with me. i had already booked my flight and hotel before hand so she ended up coming out a few hours later than me. weather was fine on friday and the flight was smooth. got to the hotel and went to the liquor store to get some supplies. got some beer and crown royal and blackberry brandy which amy likes at a place a block or so from the hotel. was sort of a walk but i didn't want to spend money on a cab. that would come later. heh. i was bored waiting so i decided to go swimming since there was nobody using the pool. amy got there as i was getting out and i changed and we went to tgi fridays which was right inside the hotel. had a long island with my burger and amy had like one bite of her food and didn't like it. it was like the second time in a row we've went to fridays and she didnt like what she ordered. heh. we went to the room and we had a drink then called for a cab to take us downtown. it took about a 30-40 minutes to get to the metro from the courtyard marriot by chicago midway airport. and yeah... it cost about 50 bucks. got there pretty much right on time. i'm getting good at predicting the perfect time to show up for the main act.

the show was great as expected. bob was in a good mood and seemed happy to be back on stage. band was a tad sloppy but who cares. he played lots of new stuff as well as old gbv favorites like cut out witch, game of pricks, skills like this, motor away, shocker in gloomtown. best part was when bob drags out a bottle of tequila and takes a sip off this brand new bottle and then decides he wants to give it to the crowd so they can pass it around. but first he's like "is this an all ages show? 18 and up? oh, it's 21 and over? well fuck it here ya go then" the bottle quickly disappears from sight. a couple minutes later bob starts to whimper into the microphone.. "where did my bottle go?" i think rich (his tour manager) had to dive into the crowd to get it. he gives it to bob and its like almost completely empty. bob swigs the last of the bottle and goes "i just tasted the spit of about 50 people". he ended up opening another one later in the show and it got passed around but people gave it back right away this time. i ended up spending way too much money at the bar. i couldn't help it i guess. got caught up in the whole vibe. i had like 2 jack 'n cokes, 2 vodka sours, and 2 beers. he played for about 2.. 2 1/2 hours. i really wanted to hear some stuff off "not in my airforce" but i don't think he played anything off that. he did play now to war and i am a scientist. scientist was great but bob fucked up the second chorus. he realized it right and just stuck the mic into the crowd and the whole crowd sang it for him. that whole part was great in general. bob and jason narducy (or "baby jay" as bob called him because he looks like he's like 20 or something) played now to war, choking tara, and i am a scientist by themselves. bob explained that sometimes he and baby jay just sit in his the hallway of his house on the floor and play old gbv songs.

too another long expensive cab ride home and got back to the hotel around 2 am. had a couple more beers and sat in the hot tub. we wanted to get something to eat but nothing was open or nearby which sucked. ended up getting some chips and other crap from the hotel lobby.

i had been checking the weather even before i left for chicago and they said it was going to get really bad around minneapolis on saturday. sure enough it did and it got pretty bad in chicago as well. it was sleeting pretty much all day. called northwest around noon to check our flight status and it was cancelled and we were booked on a flight leaving around 4. before we checked out we called to check the status of that flight and they said they were going to make a decicion on it at like 1:30. called then and it was cancelled as well as all other departing flights that day. so right after we checked out we checked back in. ended up using the gym and then swam and sat in the hot tub for awhile. decided to get dinner at a pizza place down the street. we walked there which turned out to be kind of a bad idea. it was cold and raining/sleeting. it was called giordano's and i think it was the same place i ordered pizza from back when i saw gbv on new years eve in chicago last time. i didn't order the stuffed pizza this time we got a regular crust one and it was pretty good. walked the cold walk back to the hotel and we were pretty much exhausted by then. amy fell asleep and i watched tv, txt'd people and went to bed too. other than staying an extra day i couldn't really afford it was a blast. i hope this wasn't the last time i'll see bobby live.
