What is fast enough?

Today at work I had someone complain about the speed of our DNS resolution. Apparently it's taking about 4 seconds to resolve a name, instead of the usual 1-to-2 seconds.

They started asking about putting a local DNS cache on their workstation, etc, etc. Christ, what the hell is an extra 3 seconds? This is the same guy who wants to save on boot-up time by starting processes in parallel instead of consecutively, one after the other.

Is it just because I grew up using a 386, or are people really *that* impatient now? Every computer I use (even my G4-450) seems plenty quick. Is it just that I have more patience than everyone else?

I mean, common, does 2 seconds really even *matter*??
