fyi to parents: Armsby Abbey prohibits children

Mar 30, 2009 12:01

The bar/restaurant "Armsby Abbey" on main st in Worcester wouldn't let us in this last Saturday, since we had Sebastian with us and Tom and Julz had Katie with them.

Knowing that it might get rowdy/loud on a Saturday evening we arrived at 4:30. There were a few folks at the bar but by and large all their tables were empty. They're supposed to be a "Slow Food" establishment, which coupled with an impressive sounding beer list quite excited us about the prospect of eating there. It was their "Slow Food" aim that made the refusal at the door the more surprising...not that the organization is all about kids but they do have "Taste Education" as part of their mission statement and have school initiative projects.

Tom twittered about it later and someone associated with the bar responded, "sorry about asking you to leave. Blame other parents who refused to leave when their child was screaming. Not suitable for a bar."

...I've been trying to take the high road on this and be all "I understand their policy and respect them for it but would have preferred they do something else and blah blah and some folks may not like kids so they'd be happy with this and blah blah".

But fuck that. They suck, I hate them.

Edit: I nuked the flamewar. Thanks all for participating. I haven't seen one that large in years. Rationale for doing so is in a later post if you're at all interested.
