CBT vs NLP?

Apr 17, 2006 23:42

Ok, so I'm still learning stuff about NLP but what's the overall opinion on NLP versus cognitive behavioural therapy??

Please help me understand this better... If anyone knows of any journal (medical/psychological) articles on the subject, I'd be very grateful.

Sleep well,

hey, me again!
i 'm gonna give you a really simple answer but it is from my own experience.
The main difference between CBT and NLP is the level of consciousness that each works with, CBT works with you consciously, for instance you address a problem and try and understand and change your own attitude and behaviour to it. CBT is not as direct as NLP because it can depend on the therapists
interpration of your problem.

NLP works on a more subtle level. A practitioner would help you solve your problem without you neccessarily thinking about it. It speaks to levels of your consciousness that you are not neccessarily aware of in waking everyday life. (trance states or altered states*)a good NLP practitioner can work without being told your problem

I especially like NLP as it enables you to change things unconsciously, that you say you "cant" do consciously

*rememeber were in altered states all the time - theres nothing magical or spooky about it! the state your in when your dancing is very different to the state when you watch tv! thats why adverts are effective ;)

and one last thing the therapy is only as good as the therapist!
