“I guess you know I can’t let you stay here,” said Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, casually dodging flying bricks.
“Sure, sure.” The other red haired man grinned. “Just was passing through the neighborhood and wanted to meet you.”
Carrot nodded, accepting. “Nice sword.”
Destruction eyed him shrewdly, fingering the miniature sword on a chain around his neck. “You know what it is, don’t you?”
“You could say I have… experience with… important swords.” Carrot replied neutrally. They passed under the arched gateway shortly before it collapsed. Finally out into the countryside where the occasional falling tree was mostly harmless, except perhaps to squirrels.
“Mmm. And you understand that sometimes, it’s the not using it that counts.”
“Yes. Well. You seem to have a problem there.” Carrot absently stepped around an abandoned treacle mine that had just collapsed, leaving a gaping hole in the ground.
“Excess energy.” The Endless shrugged. “It’s part of my nature, if I keep it under too long it all tends to burst out.”
“Yes.” The watchman said, nodding. “I find that restless energy can be channeled into other areas quite productively. For example,” he added, smiling brightly, “In my spare time I often go for walks around the city.”
Destruction snorted. “I’m sort of on an extended walk meself, lad.”
“Well, in that case…” Carrot said slowly. “There are other ways…”
“Thought you’d never ask.” Destruction said, grinning broadly and tugging him into the bushes, which completely failed to spontaneously combust.
