It's not much of an interest in poetry, but more of an interest in the origin of modern ideas and interpretations. It's funny how one word can steal away from the authors message. Perhaps that why people say that "it's the little things" like a way someone says hello or even smile. The translation my friend found to be close to it is: http://www.dead.net/RobertHunterArchive/files/Poetry/Elegies/elegy5.html
Even authors wear masks. History shows that it allowed them to create without being judged for their predestined title of being black or a women. In this manner it's their voice, something that could be heard and not seen that got their ideas of life and death through to readers. Ignoring race, gender, and even age just to hear opinion, such a utopia is like communism. It only works in theory.
