I'm in love with Talib Kweli (again, lol). I love that HP-commercial-esque video he has for "Hot Thing". It's, for lack of a better term, HOT, lol.
In case you missed it, I'm at Jackson State for this year, 'cause Howard was messing with my money. Plus, I get to meet and hang out with Jared's family. That's going great. I lived with them for the first two weeks and I pretty much haven't left since, lol. I changed my major to psychology and I think it's my calling. I love all of my classes (except English, which is filled with space-wasters) and I think I'll either become a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Jared took me down to New Orleans to visit his grandparents, aunt's family, and uncle. I was cracking up about how they literally all live next door to each other. I was shocked to learn that the 9th ward was once covered in trees and foliage much like where I live. It's pretty much leveled from the flooding. There aren't even bushes to speak of, really. You can still see the water lines on the buildings from the flooding and a LOT of New Orleans is still in reconstruction mode. Jared's grandfather's old house--the one where he and his wife bore and raised all of their children, where Jared and his cousins hung out and caused mischief--is now a crack house. It's so sad. But other than that, I enjoyed my visit. We went to the aquarium, ate beignets (pronounced ben-YAYS) at Cafe Dumonde, and met up with his older sister, Nia, for dinner later that night. And mardi gras beads DO grow on trees, lol. I was amazed at how much of the N.O. is built on water; I had my face pressed against the car window like a child as we entered into the city. Nearly the entire road from the entrance into Louisiana leading up to New Orleans is built on water. You can even see the swamp-folk, as I like to call them, living in their stilt houses, driving around in their fan-boats, and selling crawfish. I can't wait to visit again.
