I can't get tired of telling just how awesome this series is. At the beggining I was a bit wary (not always changes result in good things in comics) but, man, Chris Yost is one of the best writers out there. I'll take a Yost against any Morrison, Johns or Willingham any day.
But, well, enough of this and lets talk about why Tim returning to Gotham with a really angry archnemesis of his own is such a great thing:
So, first of all, we have the drawing.
Ok, Ramon Bachs wasn't bad, really (the inking was worst than the pencils), but Marcus To is a great deal better. His pencil is clean and smooth and most characters look their age (it's hard to find pencilers that draw teenagers as anything more than short adults) and he is good with action scenes.
Also, one of the best things of having Yost is that he likes to keep his books in continuity, even if it's a great pain in the ass and we've seen big names like Morrison tell the rest of the world: "continuity is what I do and the rest can screw". Yost makes his own title without forgetting that it's inside something called the DC Universe and lots of other people work in there too, making their own comics and trying to make sense to the big crossovers the bosses plan for them. He remembers to mention things that happened in (not in that order, but...):
*Adventure comics
*Blackest night
*Final Crisis
*Streets of Gotham
And, of course, keep track of the whereabouts of the batfamily and associates. He is good. really good. Red Robin is right now far more consistent than Batman.
What else?
Well, this two images made me giggle for diferent reasons:
1.-
Yes, Bullock, I've thought of that too, a lot. I also like when, a few panels after Tim mentions that Dr. Mid-Nite will surely come and beat him now. Then thinks. Then adds: "well, I could take him down". That's soooo Batman...
also, 2.-
aaw!!
Feels weird that they do it here and not the first time they saw each ither after Con's resurection, but they give a plausile explanation (no, not "hugging you in Paris would have been too gay" one) and I'm ok with it as long as it has happened. ^_^ (*does the happy fan girl dance*)
So, all in all, the title is giving me much joy in general, eve if I don't understand what they are doing with Tim's love life right now. I mean, since the beggining the boy's been like a magnet (like Dick Grayson but without getting laid), but if they give him one more love interest his head is going to explode.
Edit.-
I forgot to add that I like the pace of the story telling and the palcement of the different archs.
First arch: Tim is angry at the world, so he is completely alone in his quest.
Second arch: he is calming down. They gave him two possible allies to help him. Everything feels easier and more human.
third arch: he is calmed now. He knows he is right also. He is back at home. He has friends aswell as allies.
I'm sure that's on purpouse and shows just how good a writter Yost is.
