Lotsa stuff on my mind tonight...hmm...okay I'll try to update...
went on a ski trip with my family (first time in my life on skis!) from the 28th to the 2nd. We had a really good time. I think I consumed more alcohol in those 6 days...let's just say that slovak hospitality is quite different from American traditions...yeah, so anyway I spent New Year's with my family for the second year in a row. It was strange again. It wasnt' as strange as last year, but still. I wanted to cry when the year changed there. We weren't watching the ball drop. there wasn't any kind of official announcemetn of the new year (unless you count the fireworks that went off from nearly every house in the visible area). It was just strange to not be celebrating it when my friends were, and with mostly strangers. THe slovaks were very cool and lots of fun, but there was definately a language barrier and all relative strangers. IN all honesty I ended up kinda, well, probalby more than kinda drunk. Oh well, ringing in the new year that will finally bring my 21st b-day...I think it fitting. :) We had fun dancing in the living room until 3 in the morning. I got to DJ and everyone said I did a good job, so that's cool...it is rather easy to DJ when you know waht everyone wants.
So the skiing...well...hehe...
I've discovered that I'm not really a fan of not having complete control of my legs. I felt rather silly. I fell alot on the first day. I finally got to the top of one of the slopes and was starting to come down slowly. Then I got it in my head to try a little faster...stupid nancy. I was going down rather well, doing all the turning and junk. I had control of the turns, everything was cool, but I realized I was gaining speed and the stopping I was trying to do wasn't working. I wasn't really worried about myself, but I was really worried aobut hitting someone else. I realized that I had no idea how to tell the slovak skiers below me that I had absolutely know idea how to avoid hitting them...so I just started yelling (well screaming would be more like it. hehe.) then I fell on purpose. I hurt myself in the process but I am quite sure that I saved a poor slovak child's life (by not plowing them over) :)
The second day actually started with an instruction period. yeah..good idea in theory and it did help, but I ended up falling on my butt a few times and the result was a very hurt arm that kept me from skiing for the rest of the day. THe next day (and last day due to the fact I got sick) my arm still hurt, but I skied anyway because I was determined to get down the hill once with out falling. Yay for nancy I did get down all the way with out falling (and without stopping I might add)..TWICE! Yay! Before those runs I only fell a couple times. I was very pleased with the outcome of my skiing attempts. :)
I have more to say..insights into myself, my goals and ambitions...I'll elaborate later...but for now it's dinnertime in the great country of Slovakia.

PS..got some great shot glasses today...I've gotten better at doing those while I've been here :)
