Question About Alpha/Omegas (And Betas)

Jun 16, 2012 14:15

Hi, luvs! Question for you, O Mighty Flist: I've been reading some Alpha/Omega fics and checked it out on Fanlore to find out exactly what it was all about, but my question is: when you write an Alpha/Omega fic, are there hard-and-fast rules you must follow, or can you take the general concept and create your own world around it? There are ( Read more... )

I must be REALLY out of the loop. This is the first time I'm hearing of Alpha/Omega fics. Is that a fandom?

It's a genre of fanfic. See genclay's answer below. :)

Ah. That's why I've never heard of it. Totally not my area of interest at all. Sorry I can't help.

No problem! I wasn't sure how many people knew about it. :)

The Avengers comm was the first I ever heard of it; not really my cup of tea, but YKINMK and all that jazz

That said, I managed to find an Alpha/Omega Primerfor you. Maybe it'll answer your questions?

Hi,

I've read quiet a lot in the Sherlock fandom. There are a nuber of things that often come up. It's funny as it has some huge kinks of mine in, but also has some of my big no's.

The only concrete thing is the 6 genders.

Standards things are:
Self lubricating ass holes,
Knotting
Going in to heat ( either gender)

Regularly used tropes are:
Bonding
Mpreg
Lots of dripping juices/huge amounts of seamen.
Completely ooc extreme dirty talk. Oddly this is the thing I can't stand the most. Humiliation turns me off, nothing more so than someone calling there partner a slut.
Heightened sence of smell.
Pack dynamics.
Dub con - both partners are at the mercy of thier bodies. I've seen both the alpha and the omega as the one desperate for sex, if not both.

The D/s is more about instinctive behaviour than deliberate behaviour. Often fics focus on people proving they are more than what society considers their gender to be. Again I have seen alpha beta or omega as the discriminated aginst gender type.

I hope that helps :)

That helps quite a bit, thanks! I'm torn between using this 'verse in Avengers fic or maybe just using the 'slavery in the modern world' thing that I like. ;)

I do find some interesting questions that this genre can bring up, though. I like the cultural ramifications of a class structure set up by sexuality. *ponders*
