76 (459)
Well, it’s been quite a year! :)
The number of stories did drop from 87 to 76, but the word count jumped from 209,445 to 243,034, mainly due to my Big Bangs this year, and that doesn’t even count the third Big Bang (
history_bigbang) or A Dark Knight In Smallville story I did since they were not posted in 2011.
My posted Big Bangs were for
smallvillebbang and
superbat_bb. I’m sure people know all about them due to my updates! ;)
The word count pleased and impressed me. I liked the idea of it going up, though honestly don't know if that will continue in 2012.
The main pairings I write (Clark/Bruce, Bruce/Dick, Steve/Diana and Mel/Johnny from PE) all remained about the same. Clex jumped up, mainly due to rekindled interest and the
2011 Clexmas Bingo Card and
2011 Clexmas Winter Holidays Gift Exchange that I did this year. The latter will be posted on my journal once the gifts are revealed on
clexmas.
Some secondary pairings did well and a new pairing (Ivy/Harley) and threesome (Selina/Harley/Ivy) were written. I might branch out and concentrate more on other fandoms this year. I want to keep DC fresh! :)
I was dismayed to see that Mel/Johnny/Billie was not written by me at all in 2011 (or at least not posted). I’m working on a story that will be posted soon starring the Gangster Trio! ;)
I did manage to complete one of my goals for 2011: I completed one of my
dcu_freeforall tables,
Bruce/Dick and plan to finish the
Steve/Diana table in 2012.
My main project,
Rainbow’s Freedom, continues. I’ve completed the final arc, 9, though it requires revision/typing, but hopefully I’ll be able to start posting that in 2012. In the meantime Arc 8 began posting in 2011 and will continue until finished in 2012. There will be a special entry upon completion to reflect on five years of my writing life! :)
I started a new claims table from
12_stories that star
Mel/Johnny, my Public Enemies boys. So far I have 2 of 12 completed on that table and hope to make significant progress in the New Year. Maybe I’ll even complete it! *gasp* ;)
I tried some new things this year, the Big Bangs being the biggest! ;) I had always avoided Big Bangs because I knew that I could write a ton of words but preferred my own pace, and I still do. I can meet deadlines with shorter stuff but writing 20,000+ words within a tight timetable wasn’t as enjoyable as going at my own pace. And then of course I signed up for THREE Big Bangs at roughly the same time and a zine project! *headdesks* But I’m glad I took the plunge because it was great fun to write some good, long, juicy fic and work with the talented artists
silvervalley and
min_taiwan.
Will I ever sign up for a Big Bang again? Probably, but only if I have a good idea capable of reaching the word count and if I figure that I have time. AND ONLY ONE!!! ;) I’ll admit that
superbat_bb will tempt me a lot, but I’ll see if it’s hosted again this year before I make any decisions.
I’ll see what intrigues me if
dark_fest and
queer_fest are held this year. After all the romance I like to write for Valentine’s Day, I need to have something a little dark and horrific afterwards! ;) And also, writing about gay issues never gets old for me.
I’ll probably be concentrating on shorter fic this year. I wondered last year if my Muses were finally exhausted when it came to DC fandom, but looks like not yet! ;) I do expect to post some new Holmes/Watson stories, inspired by A Game Of Shadows, and perhaps dabble in some of my secondary fandoms a little more often this year.
One thing I worry about is spreading myself too thin. Enthusiasm is tempting! You want to rush in and claim tables and bingo cards and all that jazz and then realize you have no time or inspiration! So I’m going to try and be as practical as possible, and admit I might not always be successful. :) But I will try.
The trouble is when you keep adding on things and don’t drop others it gets to be too much, so that’s why I’m going to resist any Big Bangs except one if I sign up for any at all, and do more bingo cards or anything else that’s fairly quick. I have my new claims table and will resist claiming others until I make significant progress there.
I plan on continuing to upload my stories to
A03. Right now I’m uploading at least four per day but expect it to go slower once I have to start uploading multi-chaptered fics. Sometimes the import works for me, sometimes it doesn’t. *shrugs*
In other news, I plan on hosting Challenges this year as usual but perhaps some will be new ones! And I will be taking prompts now and then as I’ve done in the past to keep things fresh! ;)
Hope you all enjoyed the stories in 2011 and stick around for 2012! :)
