jen_in_japan had posted not too long ago. We were both laughing at the kissing booth scenario, and how it was a fad of the Golden Age years. So I came up with this Golden Age story. Since it takes place during those years of the past (probably early ‘50s), ‘billionaire’ Bruce Wayne is a ‘millionaire’, there are references to gossip queens Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper, etc. :)

JUSTICE AND POPCORN
Clark found himself getting accustomed to this new world. He happily accepted congratulations from his Justice Society colleagues about the romance with Bruce, Ollie nudging and winking that “We always knew the Bat had it in him” and even enjoying the gossip column items about him and Bruce in both of their guises. Dick declared that they were perfect for each other, and he began dating Roy.
There were still heterosexual couples around, and happily for them, they didn’t face the kind of prejudice that gay couples did in the ‘real’ world. The Hawks were still married, and Diana and Steve were still an item, though Alan informed Clark with a happy smile that they had decided on an open relationship, and while Diana had her choice of women, Alan was now dating Steve. It was also rumored that Diana’s favorite right now was Catwoman.
Alan was very busy, indeed. He had set his sights on Jay and Ollie and it wouldn’t have surprised Clark if Johnny Quick was next. He found it all very amusing and felt happy.
On a mission for the JSA, Clark felt his happiness increase as he flew next to Katar, Shayera and Alan, keeping his eye on their earthbound colleagues.
“Watch out, Superman!” Alan called, and the battle was joined as they flew into the cadre of technologically-advanced aliens who had suddenly popped up on Earth, sneering and declaring themselves superior.
We’ve heard that tune before, Clark thought as he socked a purple-haired warrior, the alien cursing and sounding very human as Clark grinned.
Down below, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow and Batman were keeping the invaders busy as the Hawks and Green Lantern helped him to start pushing back the invaders. Clark’s heat vision flew out and damaged the jet-propulsion packs of one soldier, who began to fall. Clark caught him and deposited him in a green cage made by Green Lantern.
The fight seemed to be going smoothly until he heard a scream by Wonder Woman: “Batman! Look out!”
Clark saw the deadly laser heading right for Bruce, and he flew at super-speed to absorb the energy just before it reached his lover.
“Thanks for the save, Superman,” said Bruce as he dashed to follow the Amazon.
“Always, Batman.” Clark’s body trembled. Close! Too close.
He was a bit more violent with his punches for the rest of the battle.

In the aftermath, as the JSA figured out how to send the aliens back to their home, Clark grabbed Bruce and dragged him behind a tree. He hugged him fiercely, and Bruce hugged back.
“I know,” he said.
Clark wondered if he did.
& & & & & &
Clark sat beside Bruce on the couch in the living room at Wayne Manor, watching a sitcom with the romantic storyline of fixing up the widowed father of a family of three with the handsome neighbor next door. It was probably a sign of how relaxed Bruce was that he was watching a sitcom! But for Clark, the program really didn’t matter. It was just the act of sitting beside Bruce and doing a very normal, very non-saving-the-world-type-thing that he liked.
Roy was visiting, and Bruce had firmly ensconced him in the guest room, but the boys had already enjoyed a few make-out sessions in different rooms of the mansion. They were now content to finish up their homework and join Bruce and Clark on the couch after Alfred brought in Jiffy Pop popcorn, fresh off the stove.
Bruce settled into the arm Clark had stretched out on the back of the couch. He was more relaxed than Clark had ever seen him. Well, maybe he wouldn’t bother tricking Mxyzptlk into changing things back. Clark had never felt so happy! All those secret desires of his were now out in the open, and everyone else was happy, too. He watched as Roy and Dick shared a bowl of popcorn, laughing and teasing each other.
Clark made a decision.
“Bruce, how about dinner tomorrow night?”
“Sure, Clark. Your city or mine?”
Clark smiled. “Mine.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll pick you up at six.”
Bruce nodded, concentrating on scooping up a handful of popcorn.
Clark settled back, grabbing some popcorn for himself.
Could be a very satisfying night, indeed.
