Ah, my dear Heartland! Well, I've always loved the concept of Smallville as haven for Clark. Admittedly, it's more in comicsverse than in TVverse, and that's what I wanted to show: no meteor freaks, not menace, just a place where Clark grew up and felt safe, and now he wants to share that with Bruce and Dick.
When I wrote the first story, "Truth, Justice, And The...", the Fourth of July on the common with the locals as the band in the gazebo just seemed so wonderfully smalltown to me, and it would give a good introduction to the kind of place Smallville was to the urban Bruce.
I also thought it would be fun to go back-and-forth in time, so Dick is sometimes a child and sometimes grown up in the stories. :)
Jonathan and Martha will always have a strong presence in this series. They are Home to Clark, after all. :)
Hee, this is my favorite of your fics and definitely ranks as one of my fav overall Clark/Bruce fics so I enjoyed reading your thought process on it! &hearts

I'm glad! I liked thinking about my inspiration and writing about it. :)

Oh, yes! I feel that the TV show lost something after Jonathan died and Martha left.
I had three reasons for writing this story. I always liked the notion of equality between Steve and Diana, as much as was possible, since of course Diana has the powers and will do most of the protecting and rescuing, but sometimes she needs that, too. So I started off with Steve protecting a vulnerable Diana, and then she would have to take that role.
Secondly, the idea of women being raped in war is sadly nothing new, but I wanted to explore the male of the partnership suffering that fate instead.
Finally, they've always had each other's backs, and even while both were battered and bruised, they continued that in the most horrific of circumstances.

I'm really rather proud of Stained Glass I: Shattered. I feel it's one of my best works, especially Chapter 9! :)
