Ready for something a little different? ;)
The theme is holidays: Pagan holidays!
The Master List is
here. Let’s see what we can do with the Pagan/Wiccan holidays. Note: not all Pagans are Wiccans, but all Wiccans are Pagans. ;) Holidays are known as sabbats.
Your creative work must use one of the holidays as the focus or backdrop. I’ll make announcements for each holiday as they come up on the schedule, with plenty of lead time for you (The prompt will be ‘Imbolc’ starting January 1st, then ‘Ostara’ on February 3rd, and so on).
Include poetry in your options! Poetry can work really well with this theme.
Wonder Woman fans, this could be your Challenge! :)
The Pagan holidays are:
Imbolc (February 2)
Ostara (March 20) (First Day of Spring) (Vernal Equinox)
Beltane (May 1) (aka May Day)
Midsummer (June 21) (aka Litha) (Summer Solstice)
Lammas (August 1) (aka Lughnasadh)
Mabon (September 23) (Autumn Equinox)
Samhain (October 31) (aka Halloween!)
Yule (December 21) (Winter Solstice)
If you’re unfamiliar with the particulars of each holiday, these are good sites to check out:
Pagan Holidays (A Quick Look) Essays at Witchvox.com (More In-depth) The Usual Suspects:
Genre: Sure, romance comes to mind, but what else ya got? ;) Drama, humor, hurt/comfort, etc.
Pairings (or threesomes, etc. ;) ): Slash, femslash, het, gen (this is DCU but if you’d like to write Clex, hey, that fits into the DCU!)
Rating: G all the way through to NC-17
Continuity: Comicsverse, movieverse, ‘toonverse, TVverse (Smallville, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Adventures of Superman, etc.) Cross-overs with other fandoms welcome as long as the DCU gets equal 'screen time'.
NOTE: Please indicate which sabbat (or sabbats if your work spans more than one) you’ve chosen when you post your entry. The schedule of prompts is there for seasonal timeliness but if you post a sabbat entry before or after it falls on the Wheel’s schedule, the Author's Note will help to make that clear.
Posting dates: January 1-December 31, 2010 (If you don’t make the deadline, don’t worry. We want to read your fic or look at your awesome art even it’s past the deadline!) :)
Cross-challenging welcome, so if you can fit your work into more than one Challenge, go for it!
Crossovers welcome, as long as DC characters get equal ‘screen time’.
Please post the link to your work here on this page and I’ll compile a Master List.
