Author’s Notes: This story was inspired by Mary Renault’s The Persian Boy. Alexander the Great’s men accepted their leader’s indulgence, who happened to be Bagoas, the Persian Boy, an ex-slave who shared Alexander’s bed. They didn’t object to him being male but that he was a barbarian (non-Greek). It showed their love and respect for Alexander when they accepted Bagoas, and learned to respect him in his own right.
Canon is a jumping-off point but I changed several things, including the survival of Johnny’s gang, as their dynamic was important to this story.
Mostly this is drama with elements of romance, so I said what the heck and included that in the Genre. :)
Yeah, this was going to be a one-shot, albeit a long one, but the boys were just too much fun to play with. ;)
So, enjoy this story of seduction, sex, and a touch of Stockholm Syndrome. ;)

REPUTATIONS
"All a man really has
Is his reputation."
Sir Cedric Hawk
Explorer & Adventurer
1861 C.E.
Pete smoked a cigarette, sitting in the chair by the radio. The other gang members were sitting around talking and reading the newspaper, which was only a few days old.
Johnny and Mel passed by the sitting room on their way back from the bathroom. Pete tapped the ashes into the ashtray, Red coming in from the kitchen.
“Has John decided whether to do another bank job or get outta Dodge?”
Red shrugged. “I think he’s followin’ the news to see what’s best.”
Pete glanced out to the hall. “I suppose he’s in no hurry?”
Leers and smirks went around the room.
“I wouldn’t know, Pete.”
“Boy, is G-Man Purvis gonna be red-faced when it gets around he’s Johnny’s bitch,” Homer said.
Red frowned slightly but said nothing, but when he and Johnny went outside for a smoke an hour later, he said, “We’ve got trouble.” At his friend’s inquisitive look, he repeated what Homer had said.
“Hmm, sounds like I need to talk with the boys.” He ground out his cigarette. “Let’s go.”
Johnny gathered everyone in the sitting room, sitting in the most comfortable chair next to the radio. He looked relaxed in rolled-up shirtsleeves and vest, hair slightly rumpled, collar open. Red stood off to the right, leaning against the bookcase, hands in his pockets.
“Gentlemen, I have to ask for your help.” Glances were exchanged among the men. “I have to protect my reputation.”
Grins and smirks went all round the room. “What do you mean, Johnny?” asked Tommy.
“I mean about Special Agent Purvis and me.”
More snickers, but they waited for Johnny to continue.
“Well, you see, guys, we understand these things. We’ve all been in prison and we know how things go, especially if you’re doin’ a long stretch.
“I’m sleepin’ with Agent Purty because he’s a sight prettier than any of you…” laughter all around “…and it’s a good way to keep him occupied.”
Red looked at his old friend. He suspected it was way more than that, but it was explanation enough for the boys.
“We know the score, Johnny,” Homer assured their leader.
“Good.” Johnny smiled his usual charming smile. “Now, guys like us understand, but the public doesn’t. They like me right now, because we’re hittin’ back at the greedy rich bankers, but they’d change their tune fast if they knew about Agent Purty and me. They’d call him Agent Purvy and me even worse.” Johnny looked earnest as he leaned forward slightly. “Now, we could destroy our favorite G-Man’s reputation and career, but we’d be destroying mine, too. So that means I need you guys to promise that you won’t tell others in our community about this.”
Red hid his smirk. Johnny should be in pictures, or as one of those politicians. He knew exactly how to frame his request to his men, asking them to keep his confidence as a badge of honor.
And they would.
“Www, I guess the Fed ain’t so bad, Johnny,” Homer drawled. “He’s sure pretty enough.”
Johnny grinned. “That he is.” He leaned back in the chair. “A good conversationalist, too.”
The men grinned and Red relaxed. They were willing to allow Johnny his indulgence.
Johnny had handled the situation perfectly.
