An American Legend (Public Enemies Review)

Jul 14, 2009 20:37

I went to see Public Enemies at a matinee showing, and it was discounted on top of that, so I figured if I didn’t like it, it wouldn’t cost me much. :)

I had heard reviews both good and bad, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was almost a tabula rasa, trying not to let reviews influence me when I took my seat in the theater.

Review complete with spoilers )

johnny depp, public enemies, movies, christian bale, review

I only read the spoiler-free rec because I haven't seen the movie yet, but I think I'll try it your way. A matinee seems like the best way to go! ;)

A matinee is a good hedge of your bet. ;) If you're disappointed, you won't have spent a lot of money.

I did like the film better than I thought I would. If I got a chance to see it a second time, I wouldn't turn it down. :)

Come back when you're seen it and we'll compare notes! :)

I feel like we're on the same page re: this film. Now when wil you write a quick fic--because I know you'd nail it! :D

LOL! We are on the same wavelength, my friend! :)

I was thinking that I'd like to do something in the way of fic. Probably something Purvis-oriented. :)

Yay! This review is GORGEOUS and puts into words so many of the things I was thinking -myself-, though my best beloved swears up and down that 'Little Mel' was also quite charismatic. For myself, I didn't see where he wasn't, so I just made thoughtful noises at that part XD

Thank you, Wren! :)

LOL! I did find 'Little Mel' very charismatic, because I find quiet, soft-spoken men very attractive.

I freely admit I also indulged in utter appreciation of Christian's attractiveness. ;)

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I don't think it's a movie for everyone, but it was just beautifully shot, and all very understated performances. A very quiet movie, despite all of the gun battles. It looked and felt beautiful.

I'm very happy that I liked this movie as much as I did. I think all those years of watching The Untouchables in syndication primed me for this tale. ;)

And that's a perfect way to describe Public Enemies:

A very quiet movie, despite all of the gun battles.

Since I'm a fan of both Bale and Depp I'd already planned on seeing the movie. Your positive review only reinforced my decision. :-)

Excellent! I think you're going to like this movie. :)

And feast your eyes on both boys, who look delish! ;)
