How important are social networks to your happiness? Perhaps even more important than you realized. A recent 20-year study of more than 4,000 people showed that happiness is influenced not just by your immediate friends and family. The happiness of a friend of a friend of a friend -- someone you’ve never even met -- can also influence your happiness. It turns out that happiness can spread through social networks, like a virus.
I just read this today on WebMD:
Why You're Not Happy.
Considering so many of us are struggling with suckitude right now, I took a deep breath, pushed aside my worries, and actually feel happy right now! And this is not some pop psychology thing. A positive outlook really does work! It doesn't mean we'll never be sad or angry or depressed. It just means we should grab any moments of happiness we get and hang on for dear life! And in that vein, I want to spread happiness like a virus! ;)
LJ is here right now, and if it goes, we'll find another networking site! Right now, in the here and now, I'm happy to be on LJ. I'm happy for all my friends on my flist, for people who've cared about me for the past two years, most of whom I've never met face-to-face. I am happy for a fresh start in 2009!
I meditate, visualize, and, yes, pray. I do believe life is going to get better.
*sends out happy vibes*
Hope this happiness can help you feel a little happier, too! :)
Spread the luv! :)
Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, may have said it best: "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion; if you want to be happy, practice compassion."
