Exactly! It's like if Clark had told Lex, Lex would have poured all his considerable energy into protecting Clark and his secret. So I wrote it. :)

I'm sorry but no one can be sure of that. He investigated Clark from the very beginning and has confessed to have always been jealous and envious of him. Clark didn't make Lex what he is, this has been Lex's choice. Lex was an adult when he met Clark, he was perfectly able to decide what to do with hiw own life.

I'm all for playing with the idea of a good Lex in fics, but on the show, his turn to the dark side is Lex's choice and his alone. Of course he's always going to blame everyone around him, but the truth is that Lex had already showed his true self before meeting Clark, like in "Reunion".

There's no proof that Lex's knowing Clark's secret would have made him a better person and it would have probably endangered Clark. Of course we can play with a different idea in fics. I for one enjoy happy Clex!

Oh, yes! Now I think it can be seen two ways: if Clark had told Lex, Lex would have as I wrote, become Clark's champion and protected him *while* they were having a relationship. But of course Clark had the right to keep his secret, too. Not a good idea to go blabbing it around willy-nilly! But the way I see it is that there were certainly What-ifs there: Clark took a big chance (in my fic) in telling Lex his secret, but by then Lex was already in love with him, and I think that would have made the difference. But of course it could have turned out very badly, and that may be a fic yet to be written. :)

As I said below, there's no proof of that and that's unfair to Clark, IMO. He defended Lex countless times and he didn't make Lex the person he already was (see "Reunion" for instance). Clark was 14/15 when he met Lex. Lex was 21, an adult already. Lex knew the difference between right and wrong, he didn't need a farmboy to point it out to him, and he had the resources to lead a different life, away from his father. Moreover, he betrayed Clark's trust from the very beginning and has admitted to being jealous of him.

Clark had every right to keep his secret and Lex could have made very different choices. Clark is not to blame for what Lex decides to do with his own life, that's Lex's own responsibility. IMO.

I agree with you, CAT, about responsibility. In the end, it would be Lex's choice as to how he would have reacted. And I for one don't always blame Clark for keeping that secret! People who say he lies all the time tend to forget he's got a pretty important secret there! But if he chose to reveal it to Lex, it could have changed the path we see on the show. Just speculation and much happier! :)

My idea behind this fic was that they were already in love and Clark decided to take the chance, and Lex felt that trust and poured all his considerable energies into becoming Clark's ally instead of enemy. Naturally, as I said above, Lex's jealousy and Luthor genes could have kicked in and Clark could have made a very bad mistake, indeed. But I wanted happy Clex, too! :)
