Week 9: Indianapolis Colts 18, New England Patriots 15 (5-3) (Sunday, November 2, 2008)
To my chagrin I realized I didn’t do a game report last week! Ack! So you get two close together. ;)
The game was well-played by the Patriots in hostile territory, (Indy), and they won the time of possession and showed some good, solid improvement by our young quarterback, Matt Cassel. Indy is vulnerable due to Peyton Manning’s off-season surgery and a raft of other injuries, but they are still good enough to pull out a game, especially since tight end Dave Thomas committed a stupid personal foul penalty in a key situation late in the game, and the coaching was not at its best, calling for a challenge on too many men on the field and losing, and therefore losing a time-out, which cost them later, and then calling for a time-out in questionable circumstances. Very unusual for Bill Belichick and his staff.
This game was winnable but the Patriots let it get away. They ended up 5-3 and tied with the Jets and Bills for first place in the AFC East Division (Miami is 4-4).
Ah, but what of this week? ;)
Stay tuned!
