It was a moonless night, and the Batman crouched on the rooftop of a dilipidated old building as the door of the club across the street opened, the sounds of drunken revelry spilling out along with a rectangle of light.
Two figures staggered out, cursing and wobbling, but they were not the ones he wanted. He watched them weave down the street,

Thank you, Green Eyes! :)
It always delights me to write those two in their early days. :)

It's so much fun to write them out in Gotham with the Big, Bad Bat and his bright little boy beside him. ;)
Say, I have some request ideas I'd love to see you fulfill! Are you still in too much pain, sweetie? Or will you be soliciting anniversary requests soon? I'd love to see what you could do with requests! You're such an awesome talent! :)

Very good description, Silver! :)
I do so love them like this, without the gloom and doom and angst that tears at their relationship in current canon.

He turned his head and saw the small figure bounce lightly across the gap between roofs, a glimpse of sunshine fluttering out behind him, then settling down beside him, brightness sparkling off ruby, emerald, and gold.

Hee. That's my boy. The improbable, beautiful Dick Grayson.
Also, I love the symbolism of Dick's presence disrupting Batman's attempt to become one with the Dark. Now that he has Dick, he can grow closer to him, to Light, and that's why Batman needs (this particular) Robin.
Plus, naughty me, I can already see the beginnings of Bruce/Dick. *g*

LOL! I know!
And it's always fascinated me that a boy in such bright colors managed to melt into the shadows like the Bat. Dick must be an even better ninja than Bruce! ;)

Very true! Bruce can certainly be 'one with the dark' when he's out alone, but his touchstone with humanity is Dick. Especially when he's the Bat!

*snickers*
Someday, the stuff of legends! ;)
