Divisional Weekend: New England Patriots 31, Jacksonville Jaguars, 20 (January 12, 2008)
Well, so here we go, back to the AFC Championship Game! :) It’s become familiar territory since the 2001 season, and we’re happy to make it routine. :)
Last night the first half saw a bit of a shaky defense for the Patriots as the score ended up 14-14 at halftime, and the Jaguars had long drives, getting more than their fair share of first downs. In past seasons, the Patriots’ defense has spearheaded their championship drives. While the defense is far from shoddy this year, the offense is the true star.
Tom Brady was named the League MVP, and with good reason. He broke records left and right and scores on nearly every possession. Last night he broke the record for playoff completion percentage at 92 percent. He completed 26 out of 28 passes, and the two incompletions were drops by his receivers, otherwise he would have been 100 percent! Unheard of!
The Patriots’ defense tightened up in the second half and made key stops and an interception by Rodney Harrison sealed the deal in the final minutes. The Patriots had pulled away in the second half and now they’re on to the AFC Championship Game, and it’s at home again.
No Colts/Pats showdown. Peyton couldn't get it done! Instead Little Brother Eli did with the New York Giants, knocking off the Dallas Cowboys to advance to Lambeau Field in Green Bay next week for the NFC Championship Game. The Patriots get the San Diego Chargers.
It was weird weather. Green Bay had the snow magic instead of Foxboro, but the January thaw weather proved very lucky for the Pats!
Can't wait 'til next week! :)
