THE PERFECT PLACE
Sabrina took out her atlas, blowing off the dust. Really, she needed to do some cleaning in this workshop.
Carefully opening the leatherbound tome, she studied the locations on the discolored parchment. All right, here was Salem, right where she was right now, and New Orleans, London, and dozens of others places on Earth with strong magickal vibes.
Sabrina glanced over at her spellbook. She hadn’t decided on her mid-term project yet, and time was running out. As she tried to get inspiration, she thought of her plans for Samhain. Once this project was completed, she could fully enjoy the evening.
Sunlight streamed into the workshop, dust motes swirling in the air. The wooden workbenches were cluttered with bottles, jars, and tins. There were cupboards filled with beakers and test tubes, and a huge iron cauldron was set by the windows. Books were arranged in a pinewood bookcase in the corner.
Sabrina sighed as she set the atlas down on an old wooden table. The windows were diamond-framed, in the old style of Colonial days. It was a beautiful day outside, red and yellow leaves blowing around. It was also a windy day, the ocean filled with whitecaps as the trees bent, shedding more leaves.
Sabrina was dressed casually in a plaid skirt and pink V-necked sweater. Her blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail by a red velvet bow.
She had to choose a magical place (Salem was out because she lived here), perform a spell, and keep watch on its progression.
She searched through her spellbook: levitation, teleportation, transformation…
Hmm. This one.
Satisfied, Sabrina went back to the atlas.
What location? Perhaps a city or town with a haunted house, or a section of town that had the right vibes, instead of an entire town…
Ah ha!
Sabrina’s fingers touched a fairly new page.
This place was full of strange vibes, some magical, some extraterrestrial…
Smallville, Kansas.
The perfect place.
