The Flash 1x19
Another good episode. We get to see things moving along, appearances by Captain Cold and his sister, and the escape of all the Rogues. Poor Barry. Will he ever learn not to trust the bad guys? The difference between the good guys and the bad guys is that the bad guys would have let the prisoners fry when the reactor went off. And I'm a sucker for stories in which the heroes and villains work together for a common cause, though apparently not common enough for Captain Cold!
Poor Eddie. Did he break it off with Iris? I missed some of that scene. I know he told her the future and she wouldn’t accept it, but it looked like he walked away.
I enjoyed seeing Ollie and Ray show up. Good to have friends, eh?
Agents OF S.H.I.E.L.D 2x20x21
A good two-hour finale. I wondered if Jiayang’s evil had been a part of her before her torture by Whitehall, but Cal did mention that she was changed after that horrific experience. The symbolism of her becoming a monster after Cal sewed her back together was there, along with his own monstrous transformation. It’s good that he got a happy ending of sorts because his actions were the result of taking the drug cocktail. We saw glimpses of the kind of man Cal was when he took Skye on that tour around Milwaukee. It’s probably why she asked Phil to give him the TAHITI treatment.
It’s not likely Cal willingly underwent that treatment since his memory of Skye would be lost forever, but Skye requested it, knowing that he faced a life of permanent imprisonment and torment by the memories of what Jiayang did to him and what he ultimately did to her with only occasional visits by Skye. This way he gets to have a good life and use his medical talents.
I always feel sorry for the nameless ‘red shirts’ that die in these things. That poor S.H.I.EL.D. agent who Jiayang killed was never referred to. No one even knew he was missing! Stuff like that bothers me.
Bobbi’s torture was tough to watch. And will she now retire, or is it just the thought of a long rehab and recovery depressing her? And if she does leave, does Hunter go with her? He was a mercenary but he’s bought into S.H.I.E.L.D., and is very loyal to Coulson. Would he eventually return while she stayed away from the business?
Mac is back for now, and Fitz and Jemma will be staying on the roster, or an imposter will for Jemma. Was that door left unlocked by a careless agent or could the entity always open it? Will Jemma reappear as an imposter or possessed? Will Phil have a bionic arm next year? Calling Tony Stark!
Arrow 3x20
Lots of action in this one. And now the show with the title of Arrow has no Arrow? Interesting.
I hope John comes back with a badass costume and name! And what of Ray? Yikes! And Nyssa is now serving Malcolm Merlyn as the new Ra’s? She’d be better off back in America eating hamburgers with Laurel.
Wow, so Felicity and Ollie go off like Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue in some early ‘60s Hollywood flick? I’m probably the only one who feels this way, but two of the most annoying characters this season are gone, and that suits me. Felicity has Chloe Sullivan (SV) Syndrome: she starts out as this charming, cute, funny character whose computer skills are handy. She learns the hero’s secret and falls in love with him (though in Chloe’s case it was unrequited) and becomes increasingly a Mary Sue: perfect with all the answers, and getting major screen time as other characters are neglected while her storyline becomes front burner all the time. She even got some of the Lana Lang Syndrome by becoming a superhero of her own, saving Ollie in Ray’s suit!
As for Ollie, his brooding really got on my nerves this season. He acted like he was wearing a hair shirt, for cryin’ out loud! Brooding is for the Bat in Gotham, Ollie. It doesn’t become you. He foolishly trusted Malcolm Merlyn over the people who believed in him. And if I hear “It was to protect you” one more time…! That’s something you don’t come back from easily, especially in John’s case as his wife was put in danger without him being in the loop. I hate seeing close friendships end, but who can blame him?
