Week 5: New England Patriots 43, Cincinnati Bengals 17 (3-2) (Sunday, October 5, 2014)

It was fixable. :)

The Patriots came roaring out on their first drive, Tom getting first downs on quarterback sneaks and running for yardage, and the Bengals were a bit shellshocked for the first quarter. The Pats quickly scored two touchdowns and never looked back.

The team finally woke up: the O-Line blocked and give Tom time to throw; Stephen Gostkowski kicked 5 five field goals; Gronk looked like Gronk, scoring a TD; TE Tim Wright finally was part of the game plan; RBs Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen ran for big yardage; the coaching staff did not look befuddled. BB wore his Darth Vader hoodie. ;)

The crowd chanted, "BRADY! BRADY! BRADY!" throughout the game. He'd been shredded by the media and some fans had been calling for his back-up Jimmy Garoppolo during the week! *sighs* Anyway, Tom had loads of energy and the team fed off that. He also threw for his 50,000th yard in his career.

Will this momentum continue? We'll see next week against Buffalo. This was a game of emotion, and as Chris Collinsworth said, it looked like a play-off game. There were missed throws and three times the offense settled for field goals instead of touchdowns, but it was a great break-out game after a lackluster September. And it doesn't hurt that while Buffalo is sticking with them, Miami is suspect and the Jets stink. :)

The Bengals were previously unbeaten coming into Foxboro, but typical of their franchise history, when they needed to make a statement in a big game, they flopped. It's tough to be a Cincinnati fan!

This week the Pats and Buffalo won, Miami was on its bye week, and the Jets lost big in San Diego. Same Ol' Jets! ;)

NE 3-2
BUFF 3-2
Miami 2-2 (BYE)
NYJ 1-4

Next up: the Buffalo Bills!
