Week 16: New England Patriots 41, Baltimore Ravens 7 (11-4) (Sunday, December 22, 2013)
It was a trouncing! The underdog Patriots (you don’t hear that too often) waxed the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. It was a joy to see, especially as the Ravens are a mouthy bunch and like to talk trash. They were never really in this game, that saw the running backs rack up yardage (LeGarrette Blount, Stevan Ridley, Brian Boldin) and Julian Edelman catch more balls for a season total of 94 with one more game to go. Matthew Slater shone on special teams as usual and Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones caused havoc in the Ravens’ backfield. Quarterback Joe Flacco was pretty awful, though he was playing with a bad knee. Still, the offense was anemic before he was injured last week.
The Patriots clinched the AFC East! Now they can now lock up a No. 2 seed next week if they beat Buffalo at Gillette Stadium. They could fall as far as No. 4 in the seedings if they lose, but chances are good they’ll take care of business.
Coach Bill Belichick took the team last Friday to a special showing if the Mark Wahlberg movie, Lone Survivor. Marky Mark is a native son who is a Patriots fan and was glad to arrange the showing before the movie is released to the general public. The players gave it good reviews. :)
The Bills beat the Dolphins and the Jets won this week.
