Singing in the rain, and then some

Friday night after watching Michelle's choir concert, I hung out with Kassi. She wanted to see a movie, so we saw Hitch, starring Will Smith and Kevin James. I didn't have high expectations for it, but it turned out to be a hilarious romantic comedy that was unusually intelligent at times. Kevin did very well as a socially challenged executive who was falling for his company's heiress.

"Good song man!"
After that, Kassi and I went to a bar where they had Karaoke. I sung What Would You Say by Dave Matthews Band and Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down, both selections praised by a few bar regulars. I managed to impress myself in the way I was able to emulate the singing styles of each one, even if I wasn’t always on pitch all the time or stumbled on a few words a few times. I consider it to be the best public karaoke performance I’ve ever done.
Other songs I’d like to do at karaoke sometime: Goo Goo Dolls - Broadway, Bush - Machinehead, Metallica - Enter Sandman, Blink 182 - Damnit, Vertical Horizon - You’re a God [and] We Are, Semisonic - Closing Time.

Saturday was time for the long awaited poker party. But first, my mom and I were supposed to go to a wedding party. Only problem was it was raining that weekend and we didn't know whether the party was going to be cancelled or postponed. I should just be able to make a few calls to find out, right? Wrong. Both my mom and I called like 3 people we knew were going, and none of them returned our phone calls. So, we started heading over to Cactus Park at 2PM. Aaron and Christina were there, which was a pleasant surprise. The wedding and honeymoon pictures of Chris and his new wife Susan were beautiful. We left around 4PM. Having realized how little time I had before the poker party, I asked Brandy if she could get a ride from Michelle. She was able to, so I went home and managed to keep myself busy around the condo until Seth & Kirstin showed up. Michelle, Mike, and Brandy followed. After hanging out for a while and busting out the poker table, chips, and chairs, Kassi and her sister showed up. That made it 8 attendees for the night - Just right for playing poker. Although we had a bunch of other stuff on hand (including a second case of poker chips) if more showed up. We played a few practice hands and then started playing for a little money.

"Can we have a $10 buy-in next time?"
After all was said and done, only Kassi and Seth walked away from the table with money, most of which Seth won. I lasted a lot longer than I thought I would since I only won 2 or 3 poker hands. Once those two cashed out, we all played Taboo. With our inability to guess the word "wet" given a plethora of naughty clues and Mike preemptively buzzing Seth for something, many laughs were had by all.
We will definately have to have another one of these parties at my place in the future.

Happy "Singles Awareness Day" (as Brandy put it). I didn't really do anything V-Day related today except call my mom.
