Getting to a Point

Apr 05, 2006 22:04

I thought that the only thing I missed out on in my first trip to Rocky Point was seeing the beach during the day. This time, I managed to find a lot more that I missed, and seeked God's beauty & wonder that I knew I would find there. I was somewhat reserved at first when thinking about signing up for the trip with my church group, but now I am happy to share my second experience there.

We arrived late Friday night, and Saturday morning, I woke up to the quiet sound of the ocean and the sun peeking over the horizon. Sleeping outside in a sleeping bag on the hard patio tiles took a little getting used to, but I actually felt pretty refreshed, waking up at 6:30AM. It gave me plenty of time to walk along the water line, be mesmerized the beach, pick up some seashells, and eat some breakfast before some deep sea fishing. Sleeping near the beach in just a sleeping bag doesn't sound like the smartest thing in Rocky Point, but its doable when you are staying at a gorgeous 5 bedroom beach house in a gated community with several dozen other people your age.

I had not been fishing in years, and even longer for deep sea fishing, which I had only done twice before in the States. At first it was more of a boring waiting game than anything, as we were hardly getting any bites. After moving to a few more spots, we got more bites and caught more fish. Half of them were Catfish initially which we threw back into the ocean, as they would be hard to clean, but as the number of fish we were catching decreased, their size got bigger. The second to last fish that I caught was the second biggest out of what the three of us fisherman got.

After lunch, we went to the marketplace, where half of us rented ATVs for an hour and the other half just shopped. Riding an ATV is one of those things I figured I should try at least once, and I am very glad that I did. Being my first time on something like that, I was pretty cautious at first, but then took a small jump or two near the end of my time in the dirt bowls along side the stylish hotel and condo developments. For playing in dirt, it was pretty fun. Some people pushed their limits of fun, as several riders bailed and got numerous scrapes across their body. The worst was from a teenager who had scrapes on both his back and stomach that were nearly the diameter of my head.

The rest of the time was as fun and beautiful as the beachside sunset that evening. We just hung out on the beach, at the beach house, played cards, gathered around a bonfire, sang songs, prayed, and had smores. Since we were all tired the next morning, we were ready to go, but not before grabbing one last bite to eat of real Mexican food.

As much as I wanted to make it to the Refinery or Flood, I was fairly exausted and was fighting a headache, which I later won the battle of thanks to 2 sandwiches and a Tylenol. With all the talk of fighting immigration, I found it amusing that our trailer full of our stuff was checked when going into Mexico, but not coming back to the States. I haven't had to fight much of anything lately, which has been a complete blessing. I have only had people, feelings, and things to get behind me in the event that I ever have to.

Information
Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don't understand our partner's requirements, or even our own. We all have a "love tank" that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

Judeo-Christian Ethics (The Golden Rule)

Essentially this ethical school of thought can be summed up in 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. Only do something to someone which you would like to have done to you in return. This is the ethical principal which is least prone to criticism.
