Bending the Birthday/Christmas Continuum

Dec 22, 2005 22:50

Even though my mom didn't get around to raiding my place tonight with Birthday decorations and more Christmas stuff, my birthday tomorrow is going to be awesome. I'm not doing anything huge or extravagent but between eating out for lunch & dinner, mom taking me shopping, hopefully seeing Narnia, and hanging out with some friends, I'll need to be well rested tonight. The deep and somewhat depressing contemplative mood I was in two nights ago has been turned around into positive motivation and reflection of sorts that makes me really look forward to what the new year has in store for me. Jessica is going to be in Tempe for her birthday on Saturday and will be hitting the bars, so that will be really nice to catch up and hang out with her ASU crew, even if it isn't in more of a personal setting.

When posting this on Facebook, you would think that the last two words the tag line for Saturday's party would be enough to grab the attention of at least one person browsing the weekend's parties, but it didn't. I invited almost everyone from The Gamers Society, and only one of them RSVPd. Pretty amusing, but it doesn't stop there. Many people I knew personally RSVPd on there or by other means, saying that they would probably make it, but only the people who happened to call me the evening of the party showed up, which happened to be just a few. I was expecting either...very few people RSVPing given the busy Christmas season being busy OR a normal sized group like usual to RSVP & show up since they didn't have much planned the weekend before Christmas. I didn't expect the Christmas season to make Frosted Flakes out of most potential attendees, hah! (Just kidding)
The night was lots of fun, and even though I wasn't expecting presents, Jeanne & Joe got me a wicked first birthday/christmas gift: Season 4 of "24" on DVD. *Bumps them high up on the 'Nice' list, far from 'Naughty'*

Sunday night I stopped by one of their friend's birthday parties, where I got to see and play the XBox 360. The system seems to live up to most, if not all its hype, although the WWII or earlier shoot 'em up game wasn't the flashiest demonstration of its capabilities. I was very much pleased to see the change in controller design from the giant disc, to an inherently wireless and moderately sized boomerang. It feels a lot less awkward, but maybe that is just because I am used to the PS2 controller. XBox 360 aside, the night was highly entertaining and amusing. That's the way it always should be.
