Most of my new furniture has been put together, I got a new cable outlet installed in the bedroom, and installed a new A/C thermostat. Now I have nice places for all my clothes, including my off season stuff, as well as a very nice dining room set. Now I just have to wait for a bookshelf and TV stand to become in-stock for me to purchase.
Its gonna be hard to restrain myself from buying an HDTV before the stand. I think I found
the HDTV I want at Circuit City. Frys Electronics' selection was ok for conventional TVs, but more importantly, their prices were at retail, which is bad because Circuit City was $100 less in addition to supposedly offering free delivery after a rebate. I looked at their LCDs as well and found a few Samsung models that I like. I have been tempted to get a widescreen TV, but I don't think the picture getting "stretched" when watching most TV shows would look very good, and I don't really watch enough DVDs at home to merit it either.
As for the thermostat, its the same exact type as the one at my former condo.
With the existing & much older thermostat, the temperature gauge was broken, the heat function didn't work, and the A/C would stay on unless the desired temperature was adjusted. Oddly enough, the latter and perhaps most important problem, still occurs with the new one. I inadvertantly discovered it when I woke up freezing my ass off this morning. I would think this is a problem with the thermostat because I don't know why such a problem would be caused by the unit itself, but you never know. I tried calling the manufacturer's tech support, but they make you leave a message and then call you back. They unfortunately called me back while I was busy at work, they didn't leave a voicemail with a guess at my problem despite the detailed info I gave them, and I didn't feel like playing phone tag. They did however leave me with a special extension to leave another voicemail at.
I'm gonna spend some time this weekend shuffling things around in my storage shed and donate two desks and chairs to the Salvation Army. I posted a free online ad for my giant GE microwave since my new place has an over the counter model. That thing was so nice and big - You could practically cook a pizza in it. I'm gonna sort of miss it.
Think about this: the president of the Salvation Army is paid LESS THAN $25,000 (plus housing), while the president of the United Way is paid MORE THAN $375,000 (plus bonuses) and the president of the Red Cross is paid MORE THAN $650,000 (plus bonuses)!!!
Speaking of donations, a message board posting makes me wonder if the Red Cross is going to get in another "donation money missing" scandal, much like in the times of 9/11. I'm not about to take a stance on it though, because if I did that already, I would basically be letting the media dictate my reality.
