Today's random Aussie pics are from the track used for the Australian Grand Prix held in Melbourne each March. It's run on the streets around a pond in Albert Park a little south and east of downtown Melbourne.
This first shot is from the Rialto Towers, "the tallest office building in the Southern hemisphere." You can see the park in the box, the track runs along the pond mainly and you can barely see that it's lined with trees.
This is the start/finish line for the race. You can also see in the lower right the starting box for the pole sitter (who also happens to almost always be the winner in Formula 1, 'cause it's so boring) to use for the start of the race.
This is a photo of the "paddock" or pits that are used for the race. When the race isn't in town, it's used as gymnasiums and basketball courts.
Just to prove that I was there, here's a picture of me mucking up the otherwise lovely scenery. Note: above my head, you can see plastic barriers that form a "chicane" that breaks up the front straight-away so that it's not used for racing by residents at "non race times" (i.e. the other 362 days a year).
That's it for today's "Random Aussie Pics!"
