A well test is going on. I found out about this last night at 4pm in a frenetic phone call full of needs and wants.
At 4pm, I was told I needed to leave before 6am, get to a site first-thing, pick up a tool, and get on a boat to go out to the rig. I'd need to pack immediately.
I called all the people involved to confirm the information. This led me to the fact that the actual test wouldn't start until (at the earliest) late tonight. Also, there was limited bunk space and if I came that early, I might be sleeping on the floor.
Always call to confirm your information.
I threw a bunch of clothes together and went about my night, cursing. You see, I was supposed to move into my apartment in Houston this weekend and this ruined it, because:
1) no job ever leaves on the date it was supposed to (unless it's that date in the following year)
and
2) it was a 2 day job, and jobs always take twice as long as they're supposed to.
My new plan was to go into work this morning, wait for more information, and leave immediately from work by at least noon.
Exactly at noon, I got a call advising me that my part of the test wouldn't occur for 48 hours.
I called to cancel my hotel reservations and sit here, on standby, dealing with the usual brush fires.
No idea when this will really happen.
