General Admission Q&A Sunday 30 June.
This was a great Q&A panel; probably my favourite out of the 6 I've attended over the last week. Rupert was a little bit quieter than usual, although still witty, with some great one liners, and Bradley, Tom and Eoin were as funny as ever and I think Bradley answered the most questions this time around. Some of the questions hadn't been asked before, so that made a pleasant change.
It was also the day we made the infamous Harlem Shake video. I think this was Bradley's idea, perhaps as a response to the requests at previous Q&As for the guys to demonstrate their dance moves. There are more details about the Harlen Shake part
here. In no particular order:
Asked if they had auditioned for the role of Dr Who, Eoin nominated Rupert as a good candidate. Rupert answered that if you reply ‘no comment’ to these sorts of questions, people tend to make up their own scenarios, so he then answered ‘no comment’.
Asked who they would include in the line up if they were to organise a convention like this themselves, I think the reply involved many of the other actors they'd met at Supanova (Kai Owen, Anthony Montgomery, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps), and each other. I think there were a few more but I can't remember exactly.
Asked which character they hated they had a hard time settling on an answer. Bradley did congratulate the person asking it though as it was a good question. Rupert replied Morgana, as she was evil. Bradley later added that ‘hate’ was too strong a word, but the weird alien creature in 5.02 wasn’t exactly his favourite.
The inevitable boring fan fiction question came up, which they all passed on answering.
Eoin and Bradley were asked how it felt to know their characters were going to die. Eoin was sad and cried a bit. Bradley had a fair idea it was coming based on the Arthurian legends but still found it sad.
Their keep fit training ‘regime’ involved playing a lot of table tennis (although not using a round table).
How hard was it to say goodbye to their characters?
Bradley: Very difficult. Arthur meant a lot to him and it was a great honour to have had those 5 years with Arthur.
Weirdest fan experience:
Tom: “Doing the Harlem Shake with a few”, which they all agreed with.
Bradley was asked what his favourite thing to throw at Merlin was. He replied he always felt guilty doing that but the director/s would always insist he had to do it anyway, and as hard as he could.
They were questioned as to whether they'd done any auditions in Australia (not sure where they'd find time for that). Eoin would like to be in 'Home and Away' if it meant he'd be able to live in Sydney. I think he said something similar at another Q&A, so I guess he must like the place.
Asked if they had any regrets, or would have changed the show/.story in any way:
Bradley: No regrets. There were a few things he didn't like, but no actual regrets.
Eoin: More women and more dragons.
Favourite episode:
Tom: 3.13, as it was his first one and he thought it’d be pretty cool to spend some more time with ‘all these guys’.
Bradley said he had a great time working with all the cast over the years and they became like members of his family.
Asked about the heaviness of the chainmail, especially in relation to sword fighting scenes, Eoin somehow managed to equate it to being like the spaced out (ie. tame) kangaroos he (they?) had seen at the zoo. No, I‘m not making that up. Even Rupert and Tom seemed a bit puzzled by that one. (Tom: "That sounds like one of his [Eoin's] tweets").
Bradley was very pleased at some of the (UK) location places he’d visited as they were probably not sites he’d have had a chance/reason to visit otherwise.
When asked (by the emcee) if the effect of social media has had an impact on how they answer questions at panels etc, Bradley answered that it definitely had, as things/meanings can get lost in translation once they’re put into written form (twitter etc).
Which superhero would they be:
Tom: Ironman (he as a cool suit).
Rupert: The Hulk.
Bradley nominated Eoin as The Black Widow in an attempt to get a full set of The Avengers.
