It's official...

6/12/07: 5 mile run, 41:55, 8:23/mile

At 7:30 this morning I got the call from Vice-President Frank Wetta of Ocean County College - the Political Science position is officially mine! I need to report by August 30th, but we are planning on moving at the beginning of August so we have time to settle before I have to focus on the job. Frank and I only talked for about 5 minutes, so I don't have a lot of details; however, he gave me the base salary and mentioned the excellent benefits package. The words he used - which my wife absolutely loved were: No Co-pay. After three years of paying for my wife's health insurance and having co-pays for both of our health care, I am looking forward to sharing the same plan and not having to pay out-of-pocket for it.

Today is the 20th Anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall" speech. My favorite line from Powerline's write-up is:

The day the President arrived in Berlin, State and NSC submitted yet another alternate draft. Yet in the limousine on the way to the Berlin Wall, the President told Duberstein he was determined to deliver the controversial line. Reagan smiled. “The boys at State are going to kill me,” he said, “but it’s the right thing to do.”

That distinction portrays the State Department's position on right and wrong all too often. As Mr. Spock said in A taste of Armagedon:

"We must acknowledge once and for all that the purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis."

Offending evil
Though vilified by others
Can lead to great things

"Evil Empire" or "Axis of Evil", it's all the same,
Brad
