A vidding epiphany

Over the last 24 hours, the vaguely annoying quirks of Windows Movie Maker have come into painfully sharp focus. I had come to accept the limitations of the software from a creative standpoint, and I loved the simplicity of the program. It was like a beat-up but lovable old car.

But I can't take the bugs anymore. The clip limits; the freezing; the hidden frames; the sync issues... it's hair-tearing and, worse, it randomly makes me look like a sloppy editor.

So I'm migrating to new software, namely Ulead Video Studio 9. I've already started working with the trial version, and right away the difference is absolutely shocking. It's so much more precise that it completely changes the process of vidding. No more guesswork. Plus it runs smooth as silk (so far). That's without even getting into all of the new tools for manipulation, which are exhaustive, and most of which I probably won't even touch until a few vids from now.

My next two vids are both requests with contributed music, so they'll be my guinea pigs. Unfortunately, I have almost no concrete ideas for either vid at the moment and I'm still learning the basics of the software. All of that is especially upsetting because I'm chomping at the bit over projects that are still a few vids down the road. The bitter cherry on top of this whole banana split of frustration is that I'm in the middle of a hectic stretch of newspaper work, which gives me nearly no time for anything vid related. All I can do is sit and think about how much I'd like to be vidding right now (and post journal entries about it). So it might be longer than usual before my next video is posted.

Everything I do in the future should be better because of this change/delay, though. How confident am I of that? Confident enough to make the following statement: I'm three videos away from the greatest vid I'll probably ever make, which is already storyboarded.

I've also decided not to enter any more of my past WMM works in vidding awards. I'm uncomfortable (to put it mildly) submitting something that's going to be analyzed with a precision I didn't have during the creative process.
