The Fourth Wall awards posted + some vid recs!

Results, awards, and in-depth reviews have just been posted at The Fourth Wall, the annual vid awards site I co-judge with obsessive24. If you enjoy watching great vids, definitely go check out the winners and the lovely award graphics by thedothatgirl. You can also read Nicky and I wax on at length about each of the winners in the .pdf reviews of each.

This was perhaps the most competitive, difficult-to-judge round we've had in the site's three years of existence. We take pride in limiting the number of categories and honorees to add weight to to the awards. Nevertheless, we added a new category this year, Achievement In Mood, to address what we felt was an area of vidding that wasn't being properly rewarded under the old format. Still, some truly excellent vids fell through the cracks.

Some of my absolute favorite entries among the vids that were not officially honored this year are listed below. In many cases these are all-around great vids that excelled across *every* category but were shut out because they didn't make it into the final cut for any single, specific category. As with last year, these recs exclude the vids that did win awards, as we have detailed reviews available on the site for each of the winners.

All of these can all be found on the entries page.

Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect by Kuwdora Heroes
A masterfully crafted, wistful look at Sylar's character across the seasons

All These Things That I Have Done by Martouf Marty Rang De Besanti (Bollywood)
Achingly gorgeous and emotional overview filled with clever parallels

Above and Below by counteragent Supernatural
A very smart and well-constructed look at Sam and Dean in season 4

Day Carry Night by tearful eye Criminal Minds
Visually and emotionally intense, with gripping editing

Is There A Doctor In The House? by Melanie House MD
Hilarious, fun House/patients study; just a joy to watch

Chaos Theory by Balistik Multi
The apocalypse has never looked so exciting

Sea Lion by Shoopdancer Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Wonderfully fractured editing fits the song and source so perfectly

Great White Whale by Kitty Twilight
Beautiful coloring work and excellent musicality

Til Death by Destiny Harpers Island
Evocative and consistent effects work do a great job of mood-setting

I'm A Warship by Azertynin Andromeda
Fun, bouncy, and action-packed. A Club Vivid vid minus the Club Vivid.

obsessive24 has some additional recs here with some of her personal favorites among the vids that didn't receive awards. Again, though, the quality was incredibly high across the board.

Hope everyone enjoys the vids, and thank you for another great round! We look forward to seeing what you have in store for us in 2010.
