So. There is quite the controversy over the Newsweek cover of Sarah Palin out this week. Originally the photo was taken for Runner's World Magazine with the intentions of promoting Palin as a health concious person who enjoys running to keep fit. There were about a dozen photos of Palin for this shoot, but one in particular struck Newsweek as something worthy for their cover. Supposedly the photographer sold the photo and in doing so breached his contract with Runner's World. Now, Palin is screaming that the portral of her in this Newsweek cover is 'sexist' and 'a tad bit degrading', as she stated in an interview with Katie Couric.
I just find it kind of funny all the attention that this cover is getting. Personally, being a public figure, I think that you should have seen something like this coming. When you are in the public eye, they are going to watch every move you make, and consequently pick those movements apart. Palin was OBVIOUSLY aware that her photo was being taken, it was not like it was a surprise stalkeratzi photo that ended up on the cover.
Yeah, it is not exactly right what Newsweek did, but honestly I think it is kind of expected? I mean when you are exposed in the media that much after being part of such a high profile presidential campain, this type of thing is bound to happen. I get the fact that the context is the greatest, but this is the type of thing that Newsweek does. It likes to push the evelope, see how far they can go without getting themselves in hot water. This type of thing is what magazines do to sell their publication. If they didn't do things that were shocking, then it would be boring and no one would want be interested in reading their magazine.
Whether she likes it or not, she is going to be exposed to this type of publicity. This is not the first time, and most certainly won't be the last for Palin controversy. I'm sure of it.
