[Day 1, 6:25 am @ D6] [Oishi & Eiji] Loneliness

Aug 08, 2007 00:58

An unrecognizable body, if it weren’t due to its size, its height, its last grimace, the terror in his face.
There was no pity in Oishi’s expression when he saw it, no pain, not even sorrow. There was no desire of try to help him out. It wasn’t fully human now, not when half his body was visibly destroyed, when there was no life left in his eyes, when there wasn’t anything but death and pain.

Some things are better left untouched.

Only a sudden urge made him roll his body and drag himself to a corner, puking the traces of his breakfast.

He felt ashamed of himself, though, realizing the lack of respect he had shown, and the fear he had felt, the horror still present, his tense nerves, the rough breaths. He spat once, and again, cleaning his lips with his right sleeve. In comparison, this room, this whole place, didn’t worth the respect. He didn’t deserve it himself, not after running away of partners and friends he could have possibly protected.

Nonetheless he tried to calm down and hold his breath until his mind was clear again.

Then he remembered, out of his best friends only Tezuka was left in that room, waiting for his name to be pronounced. Everyone else… who knows? Possibly running, hiding and planning; maybe thinking if they were going to play. Some of them already had the answer, others would decide it eventually, when the time had come.

Oishi stood up and, still trembling, shouldered the bag, not knowing what was in it; not that he cared anyway. Then, as calm as possible, he left the room, looking around for any other people. He couldn’t look at them, but he could hear steps, soft whispers, and suddenly he was following them, hoping he would find a known face, a friend, a partner, an old rival. Anything but the corpse left behind or the unpredictable guards. Then he was at the door, looking at the open space, the apparently loneliness, the odd fate; it caused him to shudder and stay still, trying to make a choice. He could lock himself in a room and wait for the ending to come; he could stay, dream and remember.

Even before he could think straight, he was already walking and, when he realized this, leaving the building looked easier. Oishi turned to the right and started to trot, as if Tezuka had told him to.

If he didn’t have the will to accept the facts, how was he supposed to be sorry for them?
A unique expression was his, looking skeptic, calm, while watching the people walking or running out the building, just before hiding, moving away or meeting old friends. He saw some of his but didn’t dare to move and greet them, not when he wasn’t sure whom he could actually trust. No. He stayed still, hidden among the branches of the tree, holding close his bag, waiting for the right person. He closed his eyes, thinking of ice-cream, desserts, games and tennis, of sushi rolled and served, of meeting with acquaintances and the beach, of anything but the reality.

There was no way he could accept it.

Then, after what it seemed a long while, steps moved closer, and Eiji opened his eyes as precaution, looking at this person, with relief and content.

-Oishi.- Kikumaru claimed in soft voice.

Shuuichirou came to a halt, fearing the sound of the abrupt calling just after realizing the source of it, the place where one of his friends was hidden with that calm expression. He didn’t even think if it was safe, he just got closer and, after smiling sweetly to him, climbed the tree and held his hand.

-I was wondering where you were-

-You could have called me, you know?- was the sincere response he took a few seconds to reply to; not knowing why he didn’t have think of the possibility.

-I’m not really even sure if our cell phones work here…- then he corrected himself. -Actually, I highly doubt they would make things easy for us-

‘Kill everybody else’ he bitterly remembered, looking at his friend.
Would he be able to kill him, kill the rest of his friends, Seigaku included, just to content some fucking bastards he didn’t even know?

*

Eiji looked in his pockets but there was no clue of his phone, although he did find a few candies he had kept away. For later, he thought, and searched his bag instead. He had found something indeed; he had his phone after all! He could call his family, let everyone else know of that fucking joke, he would ask for help. He took it out and, just then, he realized it wasn’t the mobile but the handle of a gun.

Fuck.

Color left his face, and he hardly mumbled his partner’s name.

Mimicking his friend’s movements, Oishi rummaged through his bag. There was food, water, a compass, a marker, a flashlight, a map and (to his surprise) a baseball bat that never left its place. No wonder why the bag was so large. It didn’t matter, though, what he did have or not, if the bat was supposed to serve him as a weapon. He looked closely to the map instead. The building, the school, was marked as Kamaishi K-9 School, located at D-6. They could walk to the Old Hotel, and then to Hirase Village, in search for everyone else. If only they had had the opportunity to plan things over, a place to meet, things would be easier. As vice-captain and friend, it had been his responsibility and yet he hadn’t thought of it until then.

Alerted by Kikumaru’s mumbling Shuuichirou looked at him, abruptly looking the weapon between his fingers.

-Eiji… leave that thing away- he half ordered, half pled, just before taking it with anxiety, putting it again in the bag.

*

He woke up and fell asleep. He was aware of the nightmare where he was going to die and yet, he held his own lie so tight that only Oishi’s fingers were capable to make him raise his look. There was no way this could be real.

-Come on. Let’s leave- Eiji heard those words but didn’t realize the moment (or the reason why) his body has obeyed him, nor when he had accepted Oishi’s help to climb off the tree. He felt his bag was fixed on his shoulder, and heard himself mumbling a short ‘Thanks’, but, just before he could make himself walk, Oishi dragged him out of the place, holding his hand. -Eiji!-

Someone was shooting at them, making them move.
Just when he realized this he started to run, following his friend.

Now they were moving without a real direction, trying to get away from that damn place.

Fuck. How he wanted to wake up.
