((OOC: I hope the movement out of C7 is ok, in a Yuka-left-before-it-went-danger-handwave kind of thing ^^))
Yuka didn't think exactly about what might be going on, what she might be risking. It was easier that way. She just ran and she didn't have to run far and then there she was, and there they were. All of them.
Shogo was crouched on the ground, and - Kazuo Kiriyama, looking far more awake and alive and untidy than she'd ever seen him and - Shuuya and Yoshitoki.
And Shuuya had a gun, and smoke was rising up from it into the clammy dawn air and -
No, wait...
Shuuya's meant to be the good guy, Shuuya's meant to be the only one I can trust -
But - And Yoshitoki's face - she'd never seen him look like that, Yoshi always smiled, but now he looked just like how you'd expect someone who was playing to look -
She only looked for a second. She wasn't sure if they even spotted her, any of them, before she was turning and running as fast as she could. If she confronted any of them she'd have to decide for real that they were playing and then - and then -
What if someone draws on me? What'd you do then?
The ground was sloping and she was running too fast and god, last night she'd climbed up this mountain making like she was so tough and now she was just fleeing and she couldn't even help Kawada, she couldn't help anyone, couldn't do anything -
Because people are playing.
Shuuya's playing.
She stopped for a second, breath rasping in her throat, and looked round, back up the mountain path, but there was just silence. No one running after her, no shots whistling past her ear.
Unless they were following and hiding. First-person camera shot and heavy breathing, you know? Unless -
Shut up. Just shut up and keep running!
Shuuya and Yoshi had always seemed like really good guys.
Shut up!
Nine people left. Well, eight, probably, now Kawada -
(so no way out)
Shuuya playing. Yoshitoki playing. Kiriyama almost certainly playing. Who else? Yuko and Sakura and Megumi, come on, how did she know they hadn't played? (I shot at Yoshimi. Just 'cause I was scared. What if one of them did that too and it just - actually worked for them?) And Mizuho, well, Mizuho was always weird and Yuka was tired of weird, tired of crazy, at least Kawada had seemed sane; scary, but sane -
What if someone draws on me? What'd you do then?
At last, she stopped. She slumped onto the damp ground, more mud smearing itself over her knees, and realised she'd been crying as she ran.
Wanted to be one of the good guys and I just -
I'm sorry -
"Hey," she heard herself say, chokily, "hey, come on, hang in there. Only eight left now, right? You could win this thing, you know you could..."
She'd intended it to be a joke, but somehow it didn't come out like that.
I don't want to kill people! It's wrong!
You know you'll probably have to start sometime soon, right?
She would've trusted Chisato. And then, if what Kawada had said was true, she would've been killed. Kawada hadn't trusted Chisato, so he'd killed her, and so he'd got to live. Then.
In the end - in the end you had to stop trusting.
"Not gonna... hunt people down. Not gonna kill anyone if... if they aren't trying to kill me." Talking made her feel a bit better; when she was talking she actually sounded like Yuka Nakagawa, class clown, horror movie junkie. Thinking was different. "Just... saying. Kawada killed Chisato..."
She didn't know what she was saying.
After a while, she got up and carried on walking.
