I cried outside the courthouse today.

Why?

I have no idea.

Mostly because my sister was a hour late picking me up, and it was dark, and I had the major creeps (plus it was windy), and I had this overwhelming feeling that I was back in elementary school where no one ever came to pick me up until everyone was gone.

Mhm. =)

Technically, it was more "tearing up" than "bawling."  So freakin' random.  I had to call someone just to calm me down, lol.  Then I ate cheese-flavored potato chips and got the happy again.  I don't really get why I did.  Under normal circumstance, I probably would have been a little annoyed.  Maybe just built up emotion over the last week.

The day started out with me getting dropped outside the courthouse with no idea what I was supposed to do (my sis had no idea either being that she was in Hawaii and never had to go to jury duty), so I wandered outside like a little kid on a field trip until a security guard came my way and asked if I needed help.  I said, "Yeah, durr hurr, first time jury duty, what do?" and he lead me inside and told me where to go.  From there, I had to wait in line to check in and sat in the juror's lounge for thirty minutes or so until "orientation" started.  Then she did a roll call (she said my name right!) and from there, groans, as the names that were called were picked to go into the pool.

We were escorted to the actual hall of justice (or whatev) where we went into a court.  The judge came in and did introductions and talked (a lot) before he gave a list of people who could be excused.  Thus another thirty minutes of waiting.  After that, the jury was randomly selected.  Yay, not me (though still stuck in the pool).

I don't think I'm allowed to discuss the actual trial in detail, but it was rather interesting to get a glimpse inside people's personal lives.  The jurors have talk a little about themselves, and the judge questions some rather personal stuff, like if they had a bad or good experience with the police.  I'm not on the panel yet, but I'm in the pool, so I have to go tomorrow.  We're still on jury selection because the judge keeps badgering on about irl stuff.  He's funny though.

Anyway, I'll probably drive myself tomorrow just so I don't have to deal with waiting.  Chances are I won't be picked if one of the jury (juror?) members are excused, but you never know.  Hopefully not, as I would be missing my sister's birthday at Disneyland.

boring, life
