Jared stalked the streets pushing people out of his way. The were at the club had left him frustrated and hungry; so hungry it was as if his skin itched with the need for blood. Each human that passed him left a heat trail and the scent of their blood... but suddenly there was another scent. It was strong and it wasn't simply hunger that drew Jared to it.
Back to the corner, arms across his chest, Hoot watched the Weres around him. His pack. In group as such they were, but not in the essence of other packs. He sighed, rubbed that back of his neck and wished JD was here. Inhaling, he was about to exhale when a familiar scent tickled his nostrils.
Adrenaline rushed through Jared's veins as he walked in. He quickly attracted attention as he began to push his way through a group of Weres to head to the main bar.
/Well fuck me with a truck.../ Standing, Hoot looked over his pack, eyes hard and unrelenting as he caught a few challenges. Sighing, he sat back down, waiting to see what Jared would do.
There was no doubting that Jared was scared being totally surrounded by wolves in human form that probably wanted to rip him apart but part of him ached to be with them. He wanted to stand and shout at them - 'I was born to be a wolf, it was meant to happen but I didn't change and now this is what I am.' His lips parted and he bared his fangs at one who came too close to him proving what they all knew he was.
That had Hoot on his feet and across the bar in second. "Hello Jared, glad to see you're doing better." Hand on the yearling's shoulder, he smiled. "Shannon not with you tonight?" Casting a glance at the pack member, he raised an eyebrow and watched as a few paces was put between the vampire and himself.
"I don't need a keeper," Jared muttered despite the truth of his situation. "Either my brother or you. I have just as much right to be here as them." He glanced out over the pack currently watching the exchange.
Leaning down as if to press a quick welcome kiss to the vampires cheek, Hoot whispered for his ear only, "If you don't want to press your luck, keep a civil tongue in your head toward me." Standing, the smile still firmly in place, the alpha waved Jason closer, "First drink on the house to our visitor," Turning to Jared once more he explained, "Bar rule. Any first time visitor is welcomed with a free drink, after that it's up to them." Patting Jared's shoulder before letting his hand drop away, Hoot leaned against the bar, "And whether you like it or not, you do need a keeper, until at least you know fully what you are capable of. How's Andre by the way?"
"Andre's good," Jared mumbled feeling his agitation rise. The scent of all the Weres was overwhelming him and he knew his eyes already had a red hue. "They don't want me here do they?"
Shaking his head even before he could answer, Hoot sighed, "No, ignorance is deep on both sides I fear. I, however," raising his voice, the alpha continued to give the image of speaking only to Jared, "want you to feel welcome here, after all, your brother is part of my pack."
Jared winced. "I don't know why I came here. I need to be around wolves and I know I can't."
"Maybe it's the dormant gene searching for life?" It was only a guess, but the drive, the pure need that Jared showed convinced the alpha he may not be far from the mark. "You are welcome, and when you are here, you are here as my guest and will be treated accordingly."
Walker had watched the young Vampire enter and knew that could mean trouble because feline Weres weren't always welcome either. He stood and took his beer up to the bar. Giving Hoot a nod Walker placed a hand on Jared's shoulder. "Can I offer you a drink?"
Jared flinched at the touch but didn't move away. This one was a Were but different to the others. He frowned, "You're not a wolf are you?"
"Not a wolf," Walker replied not taking offence. "But still a Were... now can I get you a drink?"
"Walker, good to see you. Welcome." He was indebted to this Were, "How've you been? I understand Karl's been out to see you a few times; I'm glad." Waving for another round, Hoot moved back a few spaces, giving them room.
Walker gave Hoot a wink and focused his attention on the Vampire. It was clear to see that he needed to feed and in a place like this that was dangerous. "I can give you what you need, but we need to move to the back okay?"
Jared listened and stood quietly. There was something about this were that calmed him. "Thank you," he whispered.
The two walked through the closest Weres to a room just behind the bar where Walker knew they could still be seem by Hoot. He lifted his hand to the Vampire's face and murmured, "I'm Walker... what's your name?"
"Jared," he said quietly already leaning into the Were and nuzzling his throat. The scent was intoxicating and Jared found it hard to concentrate on anything other than the steady pulse beneath the skin.
Walker's hand moved to the back of Jared's head smoothing his fingers through the soft hair. "It's okay Jared, I've done this before."
Hoot moved, knowing his larger frame would block the view from teh barroom; positioning himself so he could watch both the pack and the occupants in the small space, he relaxed his shoulders. "Jason, could you order up three very large, medium rare burgers, onions - well the works?"
"No peppers on yours, right?"
"You got it." He could hear the soft murmur of voices; Walker's soothing baritone and Jared's a pitch different.
Jared tried hard to remember Andre's words; remain calm and make it good for the donor too. He slowed his breathing and concentrated while his fangs broke the skin. The were smelt of the woods and Jared let that sooth him when the first heat of the blood passed between his lips.
Walker's hand held Jared tightly and his arm encircled him. He braced himself for the first prick of fangs, but the young Vampire was surprisingly gentle and only a slight gasp escaped Walker's lips when his blood was drawn.
He heard the soft sound of surprise and gave a quick look out of the corner of his eye. It was dark in the alcove, but not so that Hoot couldn't see Walker's face, how he was relaxed and seemed to be enjoying. Deciding that things were okay so far, he turned back to his bar and lifted the drink to his mouth.
Jared's fingers opened and closed on the fabric of Walker's shirt as he drank. It was difficult to keep his feeding controlled but Walker matched Jared's images with his own and soothed him. He gave a soft whimper and held the were a little tighter almost begging for it not to end yet.
"I'm not going anywhere," Walker murmured feeling Jared's need. He looked up and saw Hoot positioned at the door. Walker smiled. A few minutes more Hoot then we'll have to figure out how to get him safely out of here.
Agreed. You stay there and let me know when you're done. Back door near my office would be best. Not bothering to turn, feeling somehow it would be like invading a private moment, Hoot smiled as Jason placed the burgers on the bar and waited.
Slowly Jared began to sever the connection. He stopped sucking the rich blood but didn't withdraw his fangs.
Walker turned his face slightly and whispered, "Take your time." His fingers pushed through the fine black hair not rushing Jared to withdraw.
The blood coursed hot through Jared and he felt drunk on it. Clinging to Walker he carefully pulled back and licked the tiny wounds to seal them. He looked up and smiled not quite able to focus.
The blood haze still covered the blue eyes and Walker chuckled at the look of intoxication. "You're a tad drunk young Vampire," he said and wrapped an arm around him. "Hoot, time for Jared to leave I think. Any idea where he needs to be?"
Nodding, he slipped from the stool, grabbing the burgers on the way. "Yeah, I know where he's staying." Moving to the alcove, Hoot took in Jared's appearance. "Guess vamps can get drunk; never thought they could." Smiling at his friend, the alpha nodded his thanks. "Food here for you. Eat it. I'll take him home. And... be careful of them, come out the back with me?"
Walker eased Jared towards Hoot and smiled. "Seems I'm more potent than I realized. Watch him carefully Hoot." Stroking his hand over Jared's hair Walker kissed him and went back into the bar ignoring the looks from the others.
Looking at the two burgers in his hand, Hoot shrugged and eased an arm around Jared, "Okay vamp-boy, time to get you home." Moving the youngling toward the door, he got them outside before taking his first bite. "So... have a liking for were blood do you?"
Jared looked at Hoot with confusion. "Where are we going? Where's Shan?"
"I'm taking you to Andre. Shannon, well, I'm not sure where he is." Moving through the crowd, the alpha kept a firm arm around the young vampire. "How're you doing?"
"Good really good," Jared grinned and leaned against Hoot. "You're as big as Liam aren't you? He might be at Andre's again."
"Goes there a lot does he?" Turning a corner, Hoot smiled into the nearly beaming face. "You must be a handful for him." Finishing the burger, he waved it in front of Jared. "You want a bite?"
"Had a bite," Jared laughed all blue eyes and teeth. "The sexy kitty tasted good. But if you're offering?"
Laughing, Hoot ruffled Jared's hair, "Boy, you bite me and you'd be passed out in a gutter somewhere. Then I'd have to carry your ass home to Andre and explain. But all that pales to trying to explain to my mate why I let you do it in the first place."
"Tell me about your mate," Jared asked leaning closer. "My brother has a beautiful mate, he's a wolf too."
"Funny that, so is mine!" Snorting, he shifted Jared to a more standing position, "You keep slouching. So... my mate. He's amazing, isn't demanding, very loving and understanding. He's an excellent mate for an alpha. And I know your brother. He's... well, like my brother as well."
"I love my brother," Jared stated as if it was the most important piece of information in the world. "I was going to be a beautiful wolf for him; all dark and sleek, and I'd run with him away from everything."
"But you didn't change - instead you found a way to be with him. And you're still dark and beautiful." It was only a few more blocks, and Hoot pulled Jared a bit closer, feeling for what the young man had done for love. "You know your brother loves you too, would probably have done the same if you'd changed but not him."
Jared thought about that and shook his head. "Shan's all wolf, hairier than me. Oded too. Have you ever thought about being a vamp?"
Hoot blinked, eyes wide as he stared at Jared, "Actually - no." Frowning, he thought about the question, about wanting to be something he wasn't. And to do it for love... "I can understand the want I think. The need to do what you can to be with the one you love."
"I can't turn a wolf; I asked." Jared's mind was bouncing around not really taking in much of what Hoot was saying. He'd been too hungry and drunk a little too much of the rich feline blood. "Where's Shannon?" he asked again forgetting he'd already been through that.
"Not sure little one... we're going to Andre - I'm sure he'll love to see you in this condition." He couldn't hide the amusement as he made the turn into the yard of the big mansion. "Think he's home?"
"Andre!" Jared yelled without warning and stumbled against Hoot with the exertion of it.
Catching Jared, Hoot half lifted him, moving toward the stairs. "Not sure what the term is for a light weight blood sucker, but you're it."
I'm here Jared. Having heard the approach, Andre had shut down his computer and headed to the front veranda. "Hello Hoot, good to see you." Taking in the strange tangle of arms and torso, he bit back a laugh. "Jared, are you collecting were's now as well?"
"He's big, like Liam," Jared grinned and slipped his arm around Hoot's waist. "Played with a kitty tonight. Tasted good."
Lifting his eyes from Jared's to Hoot's Andre tipped his head, "Would you care to elaborate since my charge is... a bit inebriated I think?"
Hoot snorted, "Well, this very bold and daring youngling decided to pay my bar a visit." Looking at the creature clinging to him, the alpha shook his head before continuing, "One of my friends offered to feed him -he was angling for blood, but none in the pack would have given it to him and instead of having a riot..."
Jared's eyes narrowed and he pushed away from Hoot. "I have the right to be in the wolf bar," he growled but sentence held more pain than anger. He looked at Andre suddenly not sure what to do.
Stroking his fingers along the silky hair, Hoot sighed, "I never said you didn't - and the pack members there heard me extend you rights to do so - hopefully you'll remain unmolested."
"Jared, was that a safe thing to do?" Moving down the stair, Andre went to the fledgling, feeling his anger. "Were you looking for Shannon?"
"No, not then, I just wanted to go there," Jared admitted and suddenly wanted his brother very much. "But he wasn't there and he isn't here."
"I could find him if needed?" Hoot made the offer, knowing that a request from the Alpha wouldn't easily be ignored.
"I'll leave that to Jared, but for now, come in." Scooping the young vampire up as if he weighed nothing, Andre entered the house, leaving the door open for Hoot.
Cautiously entering the large foyer, Hoot looked around and whistled. "Wow."
Andre smiled, "Come on in, we have a few hours 'til sun. Maybe we can get this one sorted out." Placing a small kiss on Jared's brow, he knelt in front of him, "Would you like Hoot to get Shannon for you?"
Jared wanted Shannon. He wanted to curl up next to him and enjoy the blood still coursing through him but he wasn't drunk enough to think that could happen. "He'll be pissy with me, and Oded shouldn't see what I am..." Jared looked at Hoot and said quietly, "Because this is what I am."
"He'll be worried about the chance you took." Hoot sat in one of the chairs, wondering if it'd hold his weight. "He'll be upset about that. About you."
Jared, look at me please. Andre waited a moment before he spoke. "What your brother will see is you. The man he loves, the brother and friend and confidant, the childhood memories and the boy you were and the man you've become. And Oded, in time will see that as well."
It all sounded so sensible to Jared but it still didn't quite fit together in his mind. "Am I a man now? Did they see that in the bar? Or just a vamp wolf wanna be?" He sagged and shrugged. "I don't care, my head is spinning."
"I know my pack, each saw what they wanted..." Standing, he crossed to Jared and gave a small kiss to his forehead. "Any time you want to visit, my door is always open. And if I'm not in the bar itself, I'm usually upstairs, just come on up." Nodding to Andre, Hoot headed toward the door. "Night Jared, take care." It was as much a warning as a leaving.
"Perhaps it's best we continue this tomorrow and you come to bed?" Extending his hand, Andre closed his eyes for a moment and locked up the house. "You do realize you'll have to tell your brother about this."
"He'll know without me telling him," Jared mumbled and leaned against Andre. "Wolves talk too fucking much."
Andre couldn't help but laugh at that, "Yes... they are rather social creatures aren't they." Uncaring if the youngling would protest, he lifted Jared, taking him into his arms. "When he finds out what do you think he'll do? How will he feel?"
"I did a dumb thing I know," Jared groaned but couldn't stop himself from smiling. "If I was as big and the Hoot wolf you wouldn't try this."
Trying not to laugh, Andre thought he'd understood the question, "No, I'd demand he carry me." Moving through the basement door, the soft snick of it catching as it closed behind him, the older vampire turned at the bottom step. "And yes, it was a dumb thing, but luckily there are those who care for you and your brother and are watching out for you, willing to help."
"I should be allowed in there," Jared grumbled them growled a little. "Put me down Andre, I'm not a child and am getting sick of people treating like one."
Looking at the hard cement flooring, Andre raised an eyebrow, "Do you want me to drop you here on your big boy ass or can we go the last few feet into the bedroom and you can show me how adult you are." Shaking his head, he lowered the yearlings legs, "And - Jared? if you don't want to be treated as a child, make decisions that won't harm you or someone else." It was softly spoken as he walked past; with his hand on the knob, he looked over his shoulder into shimmering (drunk-ish) blue eyes, "Shannon wouldn't be the only one to mourn harm done to you."
There was no denying that Jared felt foolish and the misery after a drunken high was setting in. "Yeah I know," he said and wandered over to the bed. He staggered a bit with pulling off his boots then sat on the edge of the bed.
"It is easier if you sit first." Dropping to one knee, Andre pulled at the footwear, tugging them off before removing the socks as well. "Do you want to borrow something to sleep in?"
Jared shook his head and immediately regretted it. He shuffled back still fully clothed and lowered himself cautiously to the pillow. "I'll just sleep okay?"
"Let me get your pants and shirt off then." Quickly opening Jared's pants, Andre slipped them off the long legs before removing the young one's shirt. With the blanket in place, Andre divested himself of his own clothing and slipped into the bed as well. "Sleep Jared, I'll be here if you need me." Lights doused, he waited for the soft darkness of sleep to claim him.
