This was one awesome weekend!
I had my Birthday on Friday , that means I'm officially 28 years young/old right now.
As sort of a B-day gift my favorite band Do Make Say Think was giving a show in Doornroosje, Nijmegen.
I saw them for the third time, hopefully lot more to come. I went there with a lot of good friends who all enjoyed this magnificent show!!!
DMST is still my favourite band out there and they masterfully craft their music into epic shows.
They played the following songs
Fredericia
Auberge Le Mouton Noir
Outer And Inner Secret
Ontario Plates
Horns Of A Rabbit
Reitschule
The Landlord Is Dead
Bound To Be That Way
A With Living
The Universe
Herstory Of Glory
Executioner Blues
In Mind
I think I might have let 1 or two songs slip, but these ones I'm absolutely sure about. And I'm absolutely sure about the fact they were exhilarating and unforgettable live experiences.
This time around the band was accompanied by some new musicians. One of those was the lovely Julie Penner, who plays the violin! And who was smiling so nice during the concert. She had to keep up with insane guitarriffs, 2 drummer rhythm sections and 7 men surrounding her. Poor girl :P
I totally admire the two drummers format of this band. I talked with one of them after their show 3 and a half years ago in Gent and this made me extra aware of the fact that he, David Mitchell was missing in action now.
Charles Spearin, basist and founder of the band, told me David unfortunately couldn't come with them during this tour. Therefor the tour was almost cancelled.
Almost.
The matter of the fact was, David's replacement was very good too (but thruth behold, not ás good..)
I was so glad they hadn't canceled the tour.
me and Charles Spearin of Do Make Say Think. Notice the pictures Charles is holding hehe
Saturday I celebrated my Birthday and had a very lovely day with nice and warm people visiting all day long.
Sunday was showtime again. Don't stop the show!
Built to Spill was in the house; house being Paradiso, Amsterdam. I had never before seen them live and my expectations were quit high!
It paid off. They played an excellent show!!
Although their lead man, Doug (Dug) Martsch was, or appeared to be, very timid and kind of shy, his guitar craftsmanship very much made up for that.
Their live reputation is true, they turn 3 minute songs into 10 minute ones. They even extend the 9 min songs to even longer ones. Their guitars rule supreme.
Dug's vocals were hardly noticeable, the mic wasn' set out that loud.
It was an ode to guitars. Riffs and catchy hooks.
Set list 2:
Nowhere Nothing Fuck-Up
Three Years Ago
Center Of The Universe
Going Against Your Mind
Stab
Car
One Thing
You Are
Sidewalk
Twin Falls
Stop The Show
Strange
Conventional Wisdom
Made Up Dreams
Joy Ride
Carry The Zero
The Plan
Yes! This weekend was full of greatness; great music, great friends, great sun, great cake.
Things you can never get full of!
except for the cake.
Maybe we should make each weekend a birthday so that people can become 3900 and throw a LOT of party's.
