Books and Snow, Unrelated... or Are they?

Feb 07, 2006 17:00

I finished Rubicon, which is unsurprisingly about the events leading up to the dissolution of the Roman Republic. What is most notable about this work is that it reads like a novel. The prose works well enough that rarely do I realize that this is exposition based on what sources have survived the millennia. There are some notes in the book that explicitly mark when there is question about what really happened. So like most books that I finish, I enjoyed reading it.

Yesterday was an attempt to keep the sunshine of this week from being too unbearable. I cannot face a week of sitting outside knowing that it is sunny out there and doing nothing about it. Thus I soothed some of this desire by snowboarding all day. I took a lesson in the morning and spent my afternoon working on the techniques in which I was instructed. The day was rather clear and sunny, which gave a great view of the snow capped Cascades and Olympics, plus some prominent volcanoes. Alas for me that my camera was sitting warm and cozy in my apartment. Still, it was much fun and helped me a lot. Now to see how long its morale boost will last.... :)
