The earliest records of the city of Vác date from the 11th century, thus the city is considered to be nearly a thousand years old. The first written record of Vác comes from 1074 from the almanac of the Niedersaxon city of Yburg, which refers to Vác as "Watzenburg". What about the name of the city today most linguists agree that the name was originally a personal name that later became the geographical one.

1. It takes 28 min to reach Vác from Budapest by train. The student ticket costs 325 Ft. Go out of the railway station and walk along Széchenyi utca which leads to Marcius 15 Square. It is the main square of the town. It's unique triangular shape was formed in 1761. The territory of surrounding the square has historic significance.

2. The Church of the Whites and the convent got its name after the white reverend worn by Dominican monks. They started to build the church in 1699, however the work with interior decorating began only in 1755.  The one-naveled church is in harmony with the atmosphere of the square.

From the right side of the church you will see Saint Hedvig - Patron of the Danube bend.

3. The unique Baroque burial place was found here by the archeologists.

4. The stone statue of Saint Joseph on Marcius 15 Square. Moreover, all the Baroque statues in the city are of historic importance.

5. There is the market behind the White church where you can buy food, beer, wine handicraft things, flowers and so on.

6. Love padlocks at the wall of the cafe)

7. The Column of the Holy Trinity. The column stands in the square which hosted the fish market before. It was built using sandstone.

8. Opposite the Coumn is the Piarist Church. The foundation stones of the church were laid down in 1725 and it was finished in 1745. Above the frontal balcony, the statue of Saint Joseph of Calasanz, the founder of the order can be founf in a niche.

9. Walking further along this street you will see the Cathedral. This building defines the town. It was began in baroque style but completed in neoclassical. It can be visited only by mass or prior arrangements for tourists.

10. Let's go to the Danube!

11. On the promenade is so silent that u can imagine yourself only one in the world. Sometimes silence is broked with the cry of gulls and you return in life. If you are tired of the noisy city you will enjoy walking here in thoughts. Nice place for meditation. Closing eyes and listening lapping of the river it's possible to belive that you are at the seaside.

11. Like Elisibeth did, I want to give something that runs through people's hearts, brightens the fate of the fallen, as the bread-smell roses.
Kozma Lásló / St. Elisabeth legend

12. Walking, enjoying Danube and river houses. Yellow houses prevail in this town)

13. Eszterházy utca, a fountain with drinking water and a hidden church.

14. On your way back drink a cappuccino in Margaréta Kávéház. Girls who work here make it wonderful. Thank you!

I defenitely like Vác! In this small town reign comfort, peace and harmony. The atmosphere is very pacific. It was a pleasure to walk here enjoying sights. I will come again in summer)

hungary, Vác
