I am SO behind on my reviews, so here's a bundle. :)
Tears
This is not anything like I expected. It's very salty, like an ocean breeze right after a heavy storm. I expected it to be lighter, maybe even a little sweeter. But really what made me send this away is the cat-pee scent in the background. ;_;
Graveyard Dirt
The truest dirt scent you will ever find. This smells like moist, thick soil, of the kind I mix with compost in the spring when I work the flowerbeds. It even has a slight floral drydown as if I've got pollen all over my fingers from re-bedding. Very special, but it's not something I'd wear as a perfume.
Voodoo Queen
Initially, it's sharp smelling but not like the spice people have been describing, more like a floral note. Quickly it becomes very soft and sweet, and I get a delicate resin note that is rich and smoky.
On the drydown it's a musky-sweetness, thankfully nothing like Smut, which was awful on me.
I like this much more than I expected, though it doesn't last long on me at all, quickly becoming very close to the skin and almost airy. A beautifully soft and sweet blend, overall, though.
Doc Buzzard
Doc Buzzard is a very masculine, woody and resinous blend. Whereas the other C12 scents are softly resinous, this is harsh and proud and extremely upfront. It almost has an alcoholic quality, actually.
As it dries down it grows slightly softer and the wood notes come to the forefront, getting an almost nutty quality. It has quite good staying power, too.
I think this is a fabulously masculine scent. It just screams 'big strong man!' to me!
Storyville
This is all musky vanilla sweetness on me with a resinous background. I'm not getting any of the spice/gingerbread notes that others have picked up on, just a deep, sensuous musk and that womanly, exotic sweetness.
Sadly, this fades fast on my skin, though the drydown is a lovely almost candy-esque sweet scent.
I'm so thrilled I was able to try this since it really is beautiful. I think it's a wonderful embodiment of New Orleans' erotic history.
Destroying Angel
A moist earth scent with a damp linen smell; not a bad damp, though, more like the scent of laundry fresh out of the washer. It's very unusual, actually, and I really couldn't place any of the notes. Much fresher and sweeter than I'd thought. :)
TAL: Yemaya
*swoon* This is amazing! Rich, true melon with a subtle-sweet floral drydown. I'm not a floral gal but this is an exception! So pretty, deep, and feminine! I would love to hunt down a bottle of this.
GC Yemaya
Not like the TAL version at all. This is a bright and subtle melon, definitely honeydew, with a citrus sparkle that makes the whole blend a little sharp and very eye-opening. It dries down to a much sweeter and softer scent, but I'm not 100% sure on this one, particularly due to the fact that it stays very close to the skin with little, to no, throw.
Satyr
This is the first blend I've tried with civet and, oh good lord, it is kicking my ass. No exaggeration, this smells like sweaty black musk and cow manure on me. EWW!
Bathsheba
I got this one as I heard tell it's similar to Frumious Brandersnatch, and I'm now hoping that's not true as this didn't work on me. At first it was all sweet, soft plum; very juicy and pretty, but then the carnation amped up to headache inducing levels and I was very sad. I'm very much hoping FB will be more about the plum and less about the carnation. *crosses fingers and toes*
Ava Luxe Shambala Tibet
I bought this purely because of it's relation to Tibet. ^^;; It's a very nice blend, but not really my thing. It's woody and resinous with a soft drydown, and a lingering scent of rich incense. I might keep this around for ritual work when I'm dealing with Buddhist deities, though.
The Body Perfumery: Conca d'oro
OMG, this is amazing! I feel kinda guilty for swooning over a non-BPAL blend, but this is such a wonderful blend of scents! It's predominantly citrus with an almost pineapple edge, and since it's made with fractionated coconut oil there's this fabulous tropical-coconut note, which makes this such a happy summer scent. I might have to buy a bottle before they discontinue this.
