The Haunted Palace
The moment before the ruin, frozen. The scent of captured glory, of glowing pearls and rubies, of golden sunlit joy and regal grandeur: red rose, Tunisian amber, blood orange, toasted vanilla, heliotrope, gardenia and red musk.
I've been trying to collect all the DIMV scents, because of my hopeless obsession with Poe. Alone was a disappointment, Al-Araaf is a source of endless joy, Annabel Lee is lovely and endearing. I should be receiving imps of all of them pretty soon, then it'll be time to splurge on the Maelstrom.
In the bottle: All orange, nothing but orangethe muted mustiness of the blood orange.
On, wet: orange and vanilla. I feel a little bit headachey sniffing this wet, but it smelled so good, I was willing to keep it on and wait and see. The headache did go away.
Drying: The citrus fades and mellows, leaving behind vanilla and roses.
On, dry: Yesterday's roses, pressed between the age-softened pages of a heavy book. A perfect subtlety. I'd like to smell like this from head to toe. I'm glad I took the trouble to find a 5ml, and will look for a second bottle so I won't have to worry about using it liberally.
A second application to sniff it wet again: Much more citrusy, and that same reaction of a headache but only when it's wet. After about 15-20 minutes the citrus begins to take a back seat to the roses again but remains much more prominent than before. On second thought, I'll have to use this scent sparingly to get the effect I want.
