Another round!!! Bunches of reviews from my BPAL addiction...

HORN OF PLENTY:Forces a change of fortune, helps overcome poverty and want, and helps attract prosperity, prestige and earthly bounty. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Fruity cola.

On skin: It still has that sweet cola scent with something with a resin feel. I think it smells delicious, but unlike a perfume. Very syrupy sweet... I'm very interested to see the notes in this because the combination is so interesting. I really need to try wearing this when I’m going out and actually doing something to see if it does indeed attract prosperity, prestige and earthly bounty.

BLACK LOTUS:Born in the shadows of a Temple to Set, this corrupted Egyptian scent evokes images of black pyramids, river demons, and bleak, deadly desert sands. Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood.

In Bottle: Sweet deep and beautiful.

On Skin: The lotus has a beautiful sweet bubblegum/candy scent to it… but the amber and myrrh make it an adult smell. Spicy and dark yet sweet and light at the same time, I love the contradiction. The sandalwood gives it a nice earthy woody note as well that adds to it’s more adult feel. Finally a scent with lotus that doesn’t make me feel like a bubblegum smacking kid.

BORDELLO:A decadent, deep perfume, lusty and luxuriant. The scent evokes images of velvet-lined Old West cathouses, tightly laced corsets, rustling petticoats and coquettish snarls of pleasure. Bawdy plum with amaretto, burgundy wine and black currant.

In Bottle: Plummy perfume.

On Skin: Very fruity and delicious. I know I’m going to love this one. The wine doesn’t overpower it and it doesn’t have any musky notes so it’s stays sweet and juicy. I can’t explain how pretty it is, I don’t think of a tawdry bordello at all… it seems more elegant. I can picture the lush velvet fabrics and tassles hanging from silk lanterns. The fruits compliment each other so well and even though it has 2 alcohol scents in it, it doesn’t smell boozy. I want a larger bottle of this.

EVE:The spirit of temptation, the essence of lost innocence. Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey.

In Bottle: Very rosey… wow!

On Skin: Well, I’m not fond of rose scents at all… but I love apple blossom and honey so I thought I’d give this one a chance. The rose is soooooooo strong. I am hoping it will fade. There is a beautiful slight note of apple blossom in the background as well as the ylang ylang. But I don’t smell any honey yet but I’m patiently waiting. After about a half hour, the rose soaks into my skin more and the honey sweetens it up. It's not a honey scent at all sadly since I was hoping for one, but still quite beautiful.

DORIAN:The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself. Inspired by and created for my beloved Tedwin: my eternal, beautiful, wicked Dorian Gray. Refined, elegant, and lovely, with a noble bearing and seemingly gentle air. This blend is an artful deception: a sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Vanilla musk.

On Skin: The vanilla is sweet but the musk is pretty overpowering and smells VERY masculine. The tea scent is strong, a very dark and bitter tea… I don't smell the sugar. This is like the male companion scent to White Rabbit which I think is more feminine and creamy. So many girls love this scent but it just screams man at me. I really like this but wish it wasn’t so masculine, maybe I can talk my hubby into wearing it.

HETAIRAE:The sublimely beautiful, fiercely independent, impeccably cultured, fascinatingly worldly and witty courtesans of ancient Greece. A seductive and dazzling blend of golden honey, fiery patchouli, sweet fig and clove, and a blushing touch of ylang ylang. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Sweet honey and powder.

On Skin: Honey… YUM! The patchouli is light (thank god) but there’s enough to give it a slight dirty earthy note. The clove gives it spice… interesting. I don’t smell the fig… but the ylang ylang is peeking out…
Yuck… the patchouli is getting stronger. Hmmm… it started out very pretty but now it just has too much going on and the honey is drowned out. After a few hours it settles down nicely but it takes an awful long time to get there.

UMBRA:The deepest, darkest point in a shadow; the area contained within the shadow of an eclipse. East African black patchouli, cedarwood, vetiver and a dribble of cinnamon. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Patchouli and sandalwood.

On Skin: Very earthy. The sandalwood is SUPER strong, and the patchouli is a close second. I don’t smell cinnamon at all yet… wait… after about 10 minutes it surfaces lightly in the background. The vetiver stays under control, a nice background note. But the patchouli has overtaken the scent... This isn’t my taste at all so it’s going straight to swaps.

SHANGHAI:The crisp, clean scent of green tea touched with lemon verbena and honeysuckle.

In Bottle: Green tea and lemon extreme.

On Skin: Very fresh!!! This is an eyeopener. After the many sweet, muscky and incense scents I’ve been reviewing lately, this is a welcome change. This is so pretty and feminine. Very spring and summery since it smells like a thirst quencher for hot days. The honeysuckle is very faint, so I don’t this a very floral scent which is a good thing. It has a vivid green/yellow feel to it. I love this scent!

ABSINTHE:Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Herbal and lemon.

On Skin: I have yet to try real Absinthe… but this makes me more excited. It smells so good, and is this amazing light toxic green color. The anise is strongest at first, and there is a very soapy note behind it. I’m not sure what all the notes listed above are… but there is a slight mint and the lemon gives an interesting twang to the scent. I am not fond of the super soapiness though… not sure which note is doing that. I do love the anise though… it makes the scent very unique.

AEVAL:A raven-haired Fairy Queen of Ireland. One of her eternal duties dictates that she must hold a midnight court every season and hear the pleas of married Irishwomen. The court serves only to determine whether or not husbands are adequately serving their wife’s sexual needs. A judicious yet powerfully sensual blend, a mingling of justice and sexuality: sage, sweet pea, bold pale musk and warm tonka. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Sage and sweet pea.

On Skin: The sweet pea is so dainty but I smell it right away. And the sage gives a beautiful herbal back note. The musk gives it some depth which is a nice contrast to the light sweet pea. Not smelling the tonka yet sadly, since it was the note that drew me to this scent. This scent is very girly, not sensual to me as described. Sadly this scent is staying completely floral on me. I was hoping it would be a more tonka/musk scent but it isn’t on me.

AHATHOOR: Hail unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy triumphing, even unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy beauty, who travellest over the heavens in thy bark at the Mid-course of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Morning! (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Pungent, a bit like some type of cleanser.

On Skin: Not sure what notes are in this scent. I’ll try and guess… Some type of pine or wood… also something sour, maybe a fruit like lemon or lime? After a few minuets it sweetens up in an incense way… amber or clove maybe? It is very light and warm. Pretty but a bit too incensey for me. I like the sweet and sour contrast though, a very interesting scent.

ALECTO: Unceasing in Anger. Olive leaf, raspberry leaf, vetiver and cedarwood.

In Bottle: Cedarwood.

On Skin: Very woody. I love the scent of the raspberry leaves because they smell so *leafy*. Like I took a leaf and rubbed it on me, so green and alive. Very interesting… a very unique scent. It is quite outdoorsy and I’d love to wear this when I’m in the mood for camping and can’t go. But I also think it’s more masculine and I’d like it on a man better.

ANNE BONNY:Named in honor of the most notorious female pirate to ever set sail. Wicked, cruel, beautiful, intelligent, resourceful and dangerous: a true role model. A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense.

In Bottle: Patchouli and sandalwood.

On Skin: Nothing’s hiding here… it is pure patchouli and sandalwood. They are crystal clear. The frankincense is lighter but still quite noticable and gives a deepened incense note. I wore this because I DJ’d a Pirate themed club night, but that’s the only reason. I don’t like it at all since I’m not a big fan of patchouli. Off to the swaps right away.

DRAGON’S BONE:The dry, thin scent of a draconic ossuary. Dragon's blood resin with white sandalwood, dusty orris and crisp blondewood. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Sandalwood and resin

On Skin: A bit floral, is that the orris? The blondewood and sandalwood are very dominant and drown out the dragon’s blood resin at first. After a half hour… I only faintly smell the resin, but barely and that upsets me for this being a Dragon scent… the woods are still dominant and in my opinion make this a very masculine scent. Also, it is an overwhlmingly powdery scent which causes me to sneeze sadly.

DRAGON’S MILK:A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla.

In Bottle: Honey vanilla!!

On Skin: Oh my… I am in LOVE with this scent. I am a sucker for pretty much anything with honey or vanilla in it, but combined with the dragon’s blood resin… oh!!! The perfect sweet mixture! But… yes there’s a but…
I am worried about the Playdough scent… I know some people have complained of that, and I can faintly smell it, but I’m hoping it’ll stay sweet instead. After an hour playdough is still there… Finally I ask my husband. He says it smells like an urinal cake (minus the urine). So there is no way I can wear this, even if I like it… because of embarassment. YIKES!

THALIA:Good Cheer. Plumeria, pear and white champagne. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Very light fruity champagne.

On Skin: Wow, my skin literally drinks this. It soaked right in and my skin is dry within seconds. So, yes it is a light scent on me. The plumeria is the strongest scent… very Bath and Body Works like. The champagne gives it a sparkle and the pear is faint yet sweet. Oh it is so pretty, I just wish it was stronger. I need a pear scent and this would be a great one if it stuck around longer!

HECATE:Magnificent three-faced Goddess of Magic, the Dark Moon and the Crossroads. She is the Mother of Witches, and the midnight baying of hounds is her paean. Her compassion is evidenced in her role as Psychopomp for Persephone, and her wrath manifests as Medea's revenge. Deep, buttery almond layered over myrrh and dark musk.

In Bottle: Pure almond.

On Skin: DELICIOUS! I used to make this icing when I was little and it had a lot of almond extract I had to put in it. This is what it smelled like… almond extract, butter and sugar. I have a feeling someone might just think I’d been baking before and spilled the extract on myself. After about 10 minutes the myrrh and musk make themseles known. Very dark and deep… making this less foody. After a half hour, the almond is barely there, it’s just a sweet powdery echo in the back. The myrrh seems strongest… Hmmm. I really loved this, but not sure if I like the incensey note it becomes.

BLOOD COUNTESS:Elizabeth Báthory, also called Erzsébet Báthory in Hungarian and Alžbeta Bátoriová-Nádašdy in Slovak, was the Bloody Lady of Hungary. In order to preserve her youth and loveliness, the brutal and incomparably savage countess captured, tortured and slaughtered innumerable young women and bathed in their blood as part of her beauty regimen. Ah, vanity. Corrupted black plum, smoky opium and crumbling dead roses covered by a deceptive veil of Hungarian lilac, white gardenia and wild berry. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Incense and floral.

On Skin: VERY floral… but the smoky opium makes it sexy and dark. The plum and berry are very sweet… and I like how the fruits stand out... my nose might be tricking me but I think I smell a peach scent as well. The rose is light but still noticable. I like this very much, but was expecting a “blood”… or resin… scent. The floral is strong though so it’s not really a scent for me.

HAUNTED:A mournful, poignant scent, thick with foreboding. Soft golden amber darkened with a touch of murky black musk.

In Bottle: Musky but kind of simple.

On Skin: The amber and musk combination seem kind of plain and generic at first. The musk is strongest and there is a bit of a sour tinge. After ten minutes the scents begin to bloom and fill out with depth. Very sexy and primal. It is a bit to incensey/musky for me personally, but I think I’d like it on someone else or maybe on a man. Edit: I bought an aged bottle of this that is beautiful. The amber has become even stronger. Only one problem, my skin soaks it up and there is barely any throw. I think the aging may have made it just kind of fade away...

GLUTTONY:Thick, sugared and bloated with sweetness. Dark chocolate, vanilla, buttercream, and hops with pralines, hazelnut, toffee and caramel. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Buttercream and nuts.

On Skin: I’m not sure which scent it is, but I do smell a bit of spice. I expected this to be pure chocolate but the pralines, hazelnut, tofee, caramel and vanilla are all the most dominant. I don’t think I smell chocolate unless it’s just really blended in with the other scents. I feel like a Yankee Candle the scent is so sweet and decadent. This is DELICIOUS! Seriously, I’m scared I might eat my wrist.

LUST:Uncontrollable passion and insatiable sexual desire: red musk, patchouli, ylang ylang and myrrh. (Gender neutral)

In Bottle: Musk and myrrh.

On Skin: I love this right away. The musk and myrrh are strongest, very dark and deep. The patchouli has a light dirty scent in the background which I could do without but I’m hoping it will fade. The ylang ylang gives it a sweet exotic note that I like. I wish I could still love it but I detest patchouli and I can still smell it so it has that hippy incense note that drives me nuts. Wahhh!!!

MIDWINTER’S EVE 04:A melancholy, deep scent, poignant and brimming with nostalgia. The perfume of sugared plums over a breeze of winter flowers.

In Bottle: Plum bubble gum.

On Skin: The plum is very sweet and dominant. I’m not sure if it reminds me of winter since it is so juicy and fruity. But it is deep and delicious. The florals are very light, yay! I love that the plum still stands out over them. This would be a beautiful scent for a candle as well. As the scent develops, I do see it being very holidayish… it’s more berry than plum and I am reminded of the smell of all the candles around my house during Christmas. I love it!
