A couple more reviews, and a layering experiment.

As you know, I've not got too many BPALs to play with as yet, but today I thought I'd try layering a couple of scents. It struck me that Miskatonic University and Perversion might go well together. My thinking was that MU comes out very, very sweet on me, like toffee popcorn, and I don't get any of those dusty or coffee tones others do. So I thought the smokiness of Perversion might work well with it.

On wet: ugh! BAD BAD IDEA! It turned the soft tobacco scent of Perversion into horrible old ashtray! I was tempted just to wash it off, but I thought I'd stick with it.

After half an hour or so: pretty nice, actually. It took out the popcorn of MU and just left the toffee, which is overlaid with a faint scent of tobacco and something musky. It's kind of like a teenager who's being a bit bad; she's gone to the cinema with a date and they've shared popcorn, and now they're sharing a crafty cigarette and probably some kisses.

Also, reviews of some scents obtained lately:

Euterpe: The Giver of Pleasure, Euterpe is the Muse of Music and Lyric Poetry. She is Delight, and her name means "Rejoicing Well". She is credited with inventing the aulos, and is most often depicted playing that double-flute. Her scent is the joy of performing, the euphoria in song, and the passion inspired by all music: carnation and white poppy, honeysuckle, lemon, iris and white musk.

I imagined quite a light, sweet, flowery scent for this one. I've never been a big fan of commercial white musk, but I thought I'd give it a try. I was surprised by this, as it has a richer smell than I anticipated; there's a definite smell of incense, overlaid with flowers. Appropriate for a divine figure like Euterpe, I suppose! I like this one.

Rapture: Sensual ecstasy, the blinding red fire of the apex of sexual pleasure: Moroccan rose, Sumatran rose, mandarin, Egyptian myrrh, night-blooming jasmine, bergamot and neroli thrust into Arabian musk.

Bah, I get none of these things. It's just kind of... soapy. Going to put it aside for a week or two then try again and see if it smells different at a different time of the month.

Grandmother of Ghosts: Mania, Roman Goddess of the Dead, Matron of Madness, Governess of the Ancestral Spirits, Bestower of Divine Frenzy. Her scent swirls with a high-pitched tumult of laurel, stargazer lily, splintered woods, peony, mandarin and white musk, and is spiked with pale pepper.

I pretty much got the grandmother part, but not the ghosts, sadly. On me it smells like something of an old lady perfume, which is a shame. It's kind of pretty, but I'm not sure it's really me.

scent: perversion, scent: euterpe, scent: grandmother of ghosts, reviewer: rachel2205, scent: miskatonic u, scent: rapture
