I was talking with Sunfell the other day on Twitter about the danger in “governing by Dow,” which is basing one’s entire perception of the nation’s success or failure on how the Dow Jones Industrial Average is doing on any given day. As I was pondering that, a few other things occurred which gave me clearance to explore a larger insight-the importance of not subscribing to binary thinking and expecting simple “good/bad” outcomes from complex systems.
