Because the mere idea of accountability…of demanding some sort of exit strategy for the unending quagmire of blood and death that is Iraq…was too much for the man sitting in the White House, Bush
vetoed the supplemental funding bill.
Let that sink in. This man, who has gleefully signed into law legislation as odious as the
bankruptcy bill and the PATRIOT Act…who has only used his presidential veto once in seven years, to stamp out stem cell research…decided that making sure our troops got the resources they needed to fight the war he started was less important than reminding the country that he is the Decider.
In the middle of an administration so utterly corrupt and impotent that mid-level hacks
resign almost daily…in the time of a country that is less safe, less stable, and less free than at any time in my lifetime…this is how Bush views his world: “Mission Accomplished,” and to hell with anyone who thinks different.
Every time I feel like I’m ridden with “scandal fatigue,” something like this happens to remind me why I absolutely think this man is, without a doubt, the worst president we have ever had. It will take years to undo the damage he has done, and we can’t even get started until he’s out of office. All we think we can do is just mark time and keep him hemmed in until we’re sure the beast is dead.
This country deserves better. We deserve better. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
